Time is an illusion, but…

GOOD BYE 2016!

I’ve come to feel that we live in an eternal, perpetual moment of NOW. As human beings, we arbitrarily try to make sense of this paradoxical eternity by marking what we call “time”. I mean, when somebody says, “This next lap around the Sun is 2,017” I’m usually inclined to ask…

“Says who?”

I mean, why we call one day Saturday and one day Tuesday is hysterical. At the bottom of the ocean… y’know… it’s business as usual. (I know. I know. Marking time keeps us all from showing up at the dentist’s office at once. So that’s cool.) But time is truly an arbitrary construct and only has the significance we assign to it.

And so that’s why I’m gonna buy in for today and say out loud that I’m happy to see 2016 coming to an end. I’m ready to begin this new lap around the Sun. When I pay attention I can see that 2016 was another fascinating mixed bag for me personally. I experienced so many beautiful and Creative successes in my Life, and faced a handful of challenges like we all do. I was once again surrounded by genuinely beautiful people, and watched this country abjectly embarrass itself. The dreams I’ve been working toward are beginning to materialize, and yet the process is frustrating.

And so here we go!!!

earth-new-dreamers

“We’re gonna be okay. The darkness never ever comes to stay. As long as dreamers like me keep trying to find our way. And we hope you feel like joining us someday.”

I closed out the year with another incredible gig at Merkin Concert Hall with all of you guys, and both wrote and recorded the new song in the final month of the year. It was inspired by tens of millions of misguided people in this country, but dedicated to the many, many millions more of my fellow dreamers.

Please do me a favor. Share this song with EVERYONE you know. We all have work to do in the next year.

We plan on releasing at least 2 different versions of this song..

Let me just leave you today with a few images from the concert last weekend, captured by our photographers friends David Hayase and Sean Friedman.

Almost 2017!!!

Gotta share this…

Before we say good bye to 2016 officially… (I figure I already better act like we’ve put this one in the history books before anybody else in the art world dies!!!) …I wanna share a couple of songs with you. The first is something from my latest album, and it expresses a few of my deepest feelings for you and what I do with my Life.

The Ache of Being Alive

But THIS ONE… this one I hope you’ll be hearing a lot in 2017. It was inspired by tens of millions of people in this country, but dedicated to the many, many millions more of my fellow dreamers.

DREAMERS LIKE ME

The first line of the song — “Like the arrow of time, progress only moves one way — forward… it’s unstoppable direction.”

Glance back and not stare at…

Another lap around the Sun…

Well, good bye 2016.

I would like to say “Good Riddance”. But y’know? Although this year was ostensibly one of the most frustrating years many of us can remember, in so many ways it was a remarkable year. I’ve learned so, so much about myself, about Life, about human nature, about my own world view from my experiences this year… both good experiences and difficult. So I suppose this wasn’t a “bad” lap around the Sun or a “good” lap. It was another lap around the Sun.

I closed out the year with another incredible gig at Merkin Concert Hall with all of you guys, and both wrote and recorded the new song in the final month of the year. Hope you had a wonderful day…

Another Christmas in the history books…

Okay, time for me to take a week to kinda re-group, relax, re-evaluate. Think about the coming year with hope and possibility, and glance back at the past year without staring.

Cool.

I’m also thinking about doing a special edition of “The Weekly Show” one day this week. D’you feel like showing up for something like that? Maybe do a show LIVE online that does exactly what I was just talking about… maybe we can share a few songs and chat about the coming year with hope and possibility, and glance back at the past year without staring. If you think you would like to hang out before the end of the year, email me at:  thatguitarman@yahoo.com

I just wrote it and it’s called “Dreamers Like Me”. I feel pretty passionate about wanting to get it our to the world before January 20. It’s the one I opened the concert with. In the coming weeks I wanna tell the story about how and why I wrote it.

It was inspired by tens of millions of misguided people in this country, but dedicated to many, many millions more of my fellow dreamers.

Wanna say…

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Since the “Guitar Man” website ran into a juggernaut of technical difficulties a while back, I don’t have access to all of the wonderful holiday content that became tradition around here. So, here’s little something for this year.

For today I also wanna add this song to this “Christmas” update. It was inspired by tens of millions of misguided people in this country, but dedicated to many, many millions more of my fellow dreamers.

DREAMERS LIKE ME

The first line of the song — “Like the arrow of time, progress only moves one way — forward… it’s unstoppable direction.”

Tell you what… if you’re new around here, you might wanna scroll down and check out what’s been going on. All of the updates since the original website disappeared are here. I’m really hoping to be back soon with some video from “The Something’th Annual Year End Concert” for those of you in different parts of the country and different parts of the world who couldn’t be there wit us this year. In the meantime, just leave you today with a few images from the concert last weekend, captured by our photographers friends David Hayase and Sean Friedman.

Christmas Eve…

Gonna start out this “Christmas” update with a brand new song dedicated to my fellow dreamers.

DREAMERS LIKE ME

The first line of the song — “Like the arrow of time, progress only moves one way — forward… it’s unstoppable direction.”

Please do me a favor. Share this song with EVERYONE you know. We all have work to do in the next year. 2016 has been a year when we’ve all been surrounded by such anger and contention… and insanity. But y’know?

Even though I’m an unapologetic and devoutly un-religious person, I’m taking the whole day today to let go and do some work in cooperation with our pal Santa Claus. He’s one of “The Good Guys”. (The real one…. not that character in the animated “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”. That Santa was kind of a self-centered shit.) I’m hoping, for every one of you reading this, that the next lap around the Sun is the most amazing one so far for you, filled with passion, purpose, joy, growth… and Love.

NOW… time for a tradition. “The Tree”

New week, and I hafta say…

Here’s the song.

DREAMERS LIKE ME

This is gonna be a slightly unusual update. The first line of the new song — “Like the arrow of time, progress only moves one way…. forward.”

I am a Progressive person. I am a Creator. I am a Dreamer. An unapologetic “Possibility Junkie”. I’ve learned that when we are not on the side of progress and change, we are simply on the wrong side of both history and evolution. I wanna tell you guys that, for a devoutly nonreligious person I live on more “wonder” than most people I know. I often say, “I go The-Church-of-I-Don’t-Know”. I am very comfortable there; not completely comfortable… but very comfortable. (I don’t generally trust people who are “completely” comfortable regarding these matters.) I tend to embrace “wonder” rather than “certainty”… paradox rather than singular reality. I honestly cannot say what a thought is the millisecond before it becomes a thought. Where does an idea exist the instant before it becomes and idea? What is Inspiration? I don’t know where that last sentence came from… or this sentence for that matter. It’s an amazing and beautiful mystery to me. the Creative process is a beautiful mystery. Life is a beautiful mystery… a difficult, and fun, and painful, and exciting, and sad, and wonderful, and thrilling, and pointless and meaningful and beautiful mystery.

I am a “Progressive” person. I love the concept of progress, of growing, of evolving. Not a big fan of standing still… or moving backward. Recently there was a slogan about “Making America Great… again”. By the very nature of the sentence, by the use of the word “again”, it denotes moving backward… moving back to something. (Back to what? People who who spout that slogan are never ever specific.) I’m not a fan of allowing fear to stop me from moving forward or taking risks. I just trust that Inspiration comes. I just trust that I am literally Creating, and that there is never enough. I mean, the Universe didn’t Create 100 species of animal and say, “Okay, that’s enough.” Creation is still happening every day, every moment. Species keep evolving. Life keeps Creating itself. There aren’t 100 species of flowers on this planet. There are millions and millions. There will never be enough ideas… because everyday I have more. It is my sincere belief as a playwright, all of the plays written since the beginning of time haven’t yet said… enough. So we keep writing. There aren’t enough songs. So we write new songs. There isn’t enough that’s been Created. So it’s up to us to keep Creating. It’s up to us to be… The Creator. When we say… “I am the Creator” it is not blasphemy. It is our identity.

The last line of the song is:
“Dreamers like me keep trying to find out way,
And we hope you feel like joining us someday.”

I hope you feel like joining us… someday.

Okay… discuss.

I’m gonna be slamming busy in the studio to record “Dreamers Like Me” and get it out to the world.

If YOU wanna help make that happen, we’re raising the money to do it right. Here’s the place to donate.

I’ll keep you posted about the newest song. I really wanna get it out to the rest of the country sooner than later… through YouTube and iTunes and any other way we can think of. It’s the one I just wrote, the one I opened the concert with.
