4. A Lot of Lonely People
Music and Lyrics by David Ippolito
Little Jenny's sitting in her favorite coffee shop.
She always tries to get the window seat.
Nearly every day she reads and writes her poetry,
But secretly she's hoping that there's someone she could meet.
'Til a man sits down across from her, and she's too shy to look.
She glances, maybe once, then disappears behind her book.
There's a lot of lonely people in this town.
And, if you haven't seen them you just haven't looked around.
There's far too many hearts lying in the lost and found.
There's a lot of lonely people in this town.
It's Friday night, so Jimmy's headin' to his favorite bar.
He tells himself he'll have a few cold beers.
But, then at closin' time you'll find him drinkin' with the boys,
Who're always glad to welcome him. They're glad that Jimmy's here.
'Cause he jokes about the loves he's lost and the chances that he's blown.
He flirts with women far too young... and, always leaves alone.
There's a lot of lonely people in this town
And, if you haven't seen them you just haven't looked around.
There's far too many hearts lying in the lost and found.
There's a lot of lonely people in this town.
I never knew what lonely was. I never thought I would,
Until it ended Ñ And, she went away.
To everyone that knows me, now, I know I look the same,
As I'm going through the motions of living everyday.
And, everyday, it isn't long before the aching starts.
So, you can count me now among a million aching hearts.
Now, there's one more lonely person in this town.
I wouldn't have believed it 'til my world came crashing down.
Just another heart lying in the lost and found.
Now, there's one more lonely person in this town.
There's a lot of lonely people in this town...
