The People on the Hill
Thank God for My Guitar
Music and Lyrics by David Ippolito and David Friedman
Months ago we were through
We both knew forever wasn't there.
But, movin' on is not so easy
When the breeze blows memories through the autumn air
The first snow flurry is enough to get me cryin'
'Though sometimes I'm not sure what those feelings are.
And on days like those days
I thank God for my guitar.
Friday night lights up this town
It rushes down like a social tidal wave.
I don't go much for that nightlife
So, I'm holed up like a hermit in his cave.
I think I'll take my six-string to the rooftop
Where a tear might just inspire some lucky star.
'Cause on nights like those nights
I thank God for my guitar.
Someday I'll find the girl for me if I can only
Trust that love won't let me down and carry on.
But, if I couldn't sing my songs when I'm that lonely
Sometimes I don't know how I make it 'til the dawn.
Sunday morning, feeling better. Start the coffee.
Get the paper. Make the bed.
When a man finally knows he's better off he
Finds a light just up ahead.
And live for new love. That's the miracle of healing.
But, each time a heart gets hurt it leaves a scar
And on days like those days
I thank god for my guitar
Nights like... tonight
I thank God for my guitar.
