The People on the Hill
Wedding in Danville
Music and Lyrics by David Ippolito
I'm on the road to play my songs again... me and my guitar.
Music's how I make my livin' and I've done alright so far.
There's a wedding down in Danville, to the south of here somewhere
And I wonder, will she happen to be there?
Ten years have flown so quickly. Seems like another life
Since I felt my heart stop beating when she became his wife.
Last I heard they lived in Danville and, though the chance is slim, I swear
I wonder, will she happen to be there?
As the highway winds
I drift back in time
Wondering why we even met.
Why her memory's catchin' up with me,
Why my heart cannot forget,
Why her smile is with me yet.
And if he's there, too,
I wonder what I'd do,
Take her hand or kiss her cheek.
Would we just pretend to be old friends?
Who would be the first to speak?
Would her eyes still make me weak?
Back at home there's a woman with love I know is real
So, I can't explain this slightly frightened way I feel.
And as I'm drivin' into Danville I might breathe a silent prayer...
There's a wedding down in Danville...
Lord, I hope she isn't there.
