GONNA MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT TICKETS FOR THE NEXT CONCERT THIS WEEK.
.
Man! It's already January 2!!! This year is flying isn't it!? New Year's Day seems like it was only yesterday! Where does the time go?
Of course like most things... it's a matter of perspective. And that's what I wanted to begin the update with today. A little perspective.
Tomorrow is the day of the "Iowa Republican Caucuses". Listen, if you actually understand the process of those caucuses, you realize that it's one of the most bizarre ways to make a choice of any kind... let alone to pick someone to run for the nation's highest office. I'm mean, just a ridiculous system of people talking each other into switching groups in support of one candidate or another. Since the middle of last year and progressively toward the end of the year, the American "news" media has been hammering us with more and more stories about these "caucuses" to choose a nominee for the presidency. ALL of the networks and cable news organizations have a presence in Iowa. From "Hardball with Chris Matthews" to FOX News, they're all there. Chuck Todd of MSNBC estimated that about half of the people at each candidate's events are "tourists" or spectators from outside Iowa. So that means only about half of the people at any event are actually Iowans. It's been a dog & pony show that has gotten stranger and stranger, and more and more pathetic and embarrassing as it's gone on. It's become...

But I just wanted to throw a few numbers at you.
All of this "first-in-the-nation-hoo-ha" is about a small number of white bread, middle American folk in one of the least diverse and least demographically representative states, who will gather in school gymnasiums to pick a candidate as their choice by forming little groups of people or "caucuses". How many people are we actually talkin' about? How many citizens are getting all this news coverage every 4 years?
Here's a fun fact... in 2008, one hypocritical Christian blowhard named Mike Hukabee won the Iowa Caucus with 40,954 votes.
40,954

Attendance at one sold-out Yankees game?
52,325

.
People at one sold out Giants game?
82,500
.
Nearly as many people (More than 3/4) attend ONE football game in the new Giants Stadium as participate in the entire Iowa Caucuses voting for all the candidates combined. The amount of time and money spent and this much attention paid to something this meaningless is kind of insane if you ask me. (But, of course, no one is asking me.)
I just thought I'd throw that out there today... just to keep it all in perspective!
Hey! I hope you're enjoying the music videos I've been posting from last year's concert at The Kaufman Center. I had a blast that night and every time I edit one of these videos it brings back what a great time it is every single time I'm hangin' with all of you with guitar on my shoulder. I've got a couple of things I can tell you about today to start the year.
YES! I already submitted all the paperwork and fees to The Parks Department for the special Events Permits we'll need for the summer. It always feels good to know that's all taken care of.
.
AND THIS WEEK!!! I'll be making an announcement about the first "indoor" concert of 2012. I'm thinking it's gonna be a very special night at The Leonard Nimoy Thalia here in New York called...
Like I said, I'll make an announcement about the tickets for the March 3 concert this week! Even in a 2 1/2 hour concert I never get to all the songs I know you guys wanna hear -- a lot of the songs from a few years back... a lot of songs from back when I first started being "That Guitar Man from Central Park". And I'm still writing. I have another handful of brand new songs that you've never heard before. So, I'm gonna do a more intimate night of music and storytelling in a smaller theater, so I can share a whole bunch of that stuff with you. It'll basically just be me, probably sitting on a milk crate, with a guitar. And of course... you.
I'm already looking forward to it.

We've got sooooo many really cool ideas and plans for 2012. Like this one possibility as explained by Broadway legend Tony Walton and his wife.

And then there's the new webseries being produced by my pal, Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Dean Love.
As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
