Republican Debates... quick little editorial. (Not really. Just a thought.)

_______________________________________________________________

I hafta share this thought that struck me as I was toughing my way through viewing the most recent Republican "debate" last night.

Really amazing.

I was talking to a friend the other day about exactly this. It was about this field of candidates for the Republican nomination for President of the United States.

Now I'm not a Democrat or a Conservative or a Green or a Blue or anything else. I've been a registered Independent my whole life. But even if you're a Republican you hafta admit! Yeah, we all watch and crack jokes when Mitt Romney is suddenly diametrically opposed to a declared position he once claimed to hold... depending on who he's speaking to and what day it is. (Technically I think his name kinda means "With Romney".) We all shake our heads in amazement when Herman Cain attacks the world for having common sense and seeing through his antiquated, sleaze-bag attitudes about women. (How many times have YOU had pay women to keep quiet about your sleaziness? Doesn't happen in your average lifetime.) Everyone smiles at the thought of Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry or Rick Santorum being taken seriously about... um... anything. We're somewhat disgusted by the lack of character and integrity exhibited by the likes of Newt Gingrich over the years and we're astounded that John Huntsman is in the single digits and, despite being the most capable of them all, is a complete non-entity at each of these 250 debates. And of course, Ron Paul is just everybody's crazy uncle who once in a while comes up with a good thought, followed by something as outrageous as letting people die if they don't pay for their private insurance premiums.

But these people aren't applying to be the manager of the local Walmart. And they're not even being considered for a position at Chase Bank or IBM.

This collection of... people... are running for President of the United States!!!!

.

Again -- Damn! They make it so easy for a man who writes funny songs!

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
