First of all, I need to say once again.... THANKS to every single one of you who spent even one afternoon with me in Central Park this season. It was just another typically amazing year. I don't care where in the country or where in the world you're reading this now, a little piece of you will always be here in The Big Apple... because you left a little something of your warmth in my heart this Summer.
Thank you.
.
And... hey! Y'know what?
I woke up yesterday with an amazing idea. And when that happens, it grabs me by the heart and I hafta see it through until it's become a reality.
My good friend and Emmy Award-wining filmmaker, Dean Love is on board with this thing, too.
What we're gonna do is produce a music video that will counter the crap you see and hear in the American "news" media about those of us who are standing with and supporting the "Occupy Wall Street" movement. I mean, even John Oliver of The Daily Show did a piece making fun of the oddest people in Zuccotti Park. And if you hear Rush Limbaugh or anyone on FOX talk about the good people down there, you would get a picture of something that is farther from reality than Rush is from a healthy heart weight. Even the other semi-responsible news organizations tend to stick the microphone in the face of the woman on stilts in the fairy costume or the stoned guy wearing the barrel!
I've been down in Zuccotti Park several times and I'm going again. Two of my sisters, both dedicated school teachers have stood with us. My father, a retired Deputy Chief of the FDNY has stood with us twice. The overwhelming majority of the people down there are fair-minded, reasonable, caring, free-thinking, intelligent, polite, respectful, articulate, passionate people who have simply had enough of the corruption, the hypocrisy and the duplicity of those in government and in finance, both in this country and around the world. So basically, people like Limbaugh are either liars, or stupid, or horribly mistaken, or disdainful or indifferent in regard to Truth... or all of the above. (Not really worth thinking about or getting upset over. We just have work to do.)
.
.
So keep checking back for that video. It will be here -- SOON!
(We're really ducking our heads and getting to work on it today!)
In the meantime, I wanna offer a little retrospective of the beautiful moments from this past Summer season in Central Park... starting with a bearded guitar man on out "Opening Day" in May and throughout the season.
Hey, there are 2 pretty extensive Photo Galleries from this year and last further down the page. and to catch up any newcomers to the site about a couple of the projects we're workin' on...
FIRST OF ALL!!!
THE TICKETS ARE ALREADY ON SALE FOR THE CONCERT ON DECEMBER 10 !!!
.
And the box office is open today! You can call them today...
212-501-3330
...to make sure you get the very best seats.
I mean, there isn't a bad seat in Merkin Concert Hall in The Kaufman Center. there really isn't. If you've ever been there you know... it's a beautiful 500-seat venue which is designed for orchestral concerts. So, it's a wide stage with a very intimate feel.
Every year I get to share a stage with some of the most amazing, funniest, most generous, good-hearted, fun artists anywhere... and that's at Merkin Concert Hall in The Kaufman Center in New York City. This year it's lookin' like the usual suspects... George Wurzbach, Teresa Reynolds, Nelson Montana, Ryan Cavan, David Marcus and Chris Tedesco.
Yeah, I know right now December 10th might feel like a long way off. But it's really less than 8 weeks away. And you know how it goes once we get into November, tickets start flying.
So, it might be a good idea to kinda plan your night around Saturday night, December 10th soon. Y'know? Call a few friends. See who's gonna be in town. See who feels like grabbing dinner in Manhattan that weekend and catching the show.
.
If you already know that you wanna be at this show and you wanna grab the very best seats, you can get them today!!!!
Cool?
In the meantime, for any newcomers... Here's something about one of the two big projects we're cookin' here at the site.
Y'know? Music is most often a "mirror" to help reflect the world around us. But sometimes it's also a "hammer" to help shape the world around us. Both ways... it usually feels great if you're doin' it right!
We're still looking of the right person to direct the piece and we could still use some help financially. We've raised about $20,000 for the workshop but could probably use about another $5,000 to get it on it's feet. So... if you're inclined to help (Or you're one of those people who just has too damned much money and wants to put it to good use!) ... this is what we're trying to do. Maybe it's time to reach a larger audience!!!! Maybe on Broadway!
In a nutshell, we're putting together something that we hope is headed for Broadway or... Jupiter... or... I don't know. But it's gonna be done someplace. Broadway legend, TONY WALTON, a man who has more Tony Awards and Academy Awards than I have socks, is behind it 100%... so now it's just about getting the right team together and working it. I'll be inviting all of you to another one of those small, unplugged work sessions very soon, so keep checking back. The last 2 filled up in a matter of hours.
Here's a little 10-minute video from Tony and his wife... explaining the project.
Welcome to all you newcomers! WELCOME to you if this is your first time here at the website! I hope you bookmark it and check back every day. It's become a very fun, very under-the-radar little New York Secret. You can always keep up with the cool stuff that's goin' on around me and my music and all the amazing people in this circle of friends and fellow-artists.
You can always go back and browse through THE ARCHIVE as far back as you wanna go. I mean... thanks to my friend, my webmaster, and resident evil genius James Marino, you can historically go back through this website all the way back through the Bush years right up until the present. It's really kinda freaky how much content is here on this site.... cartoons, free songs, Photoshop images. Very cool.

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
