Hey listen... welcome to the website.

WHAT A DAY WE HAD LAST SATURDAY!!!

.

Lotsa photos from Saturday already in yesterday's update.

.

First I wanna just start with this today...

The Golden Rule used to be... "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

An awful lot of you are always checking in from different parts of the country and different parts of the the world. And these days, I'm feeling closer to many of you than ever before.

Y'know, we have a lot of fun around here... and we always will. There is a smile, or a laugh, or a genuinely good cry behind most everything in Life. But as an artist and as an American singer/songwriter... as a folk singer, part of my job is to write about what's going on in the world around me. So yes, around here I will be intermittently writing about the "Occupy Wall Street" movement. I was down there earlier this week and it;s easy to see that, like every movement or protest, it's got it's got it's challenges. It will be flawed and ungraceful as it is made up of perfectly imperfect, flawed human beings. But the overall premise and the reason for takin' it to the streets is completely valid. We are truly living in a second "Gilded Age". We have been for quite some time. But having been distracted by enigmatic and undefinable "wars" as well as political and social polarization, we hadn't arrived at the point of reaction. Maybe that's changing now.

The gap between rich and poor has never been wider in my lifetime. It's exploded exponentially since the 1980s. The deck is absolutely stacked against the middle class, the worker and the poor. The people in this country who can least afford it keep takin' it in the neck. No question. Undeniable. Unarguably. It's not a question of some people achieving wealth on a level playing field. We are seeing the result of "The re-written Golden Rule".

"The people who have the gold... make the rules."

That's not just. It's not right. It's not decent. It's not Good. And so yes... besides singing and talking about Life, and Love, and Silliness, and Beauty, and Really Good Sex, and Kindness, and Compassion, and Wonder, and Curiosity, and Commonality... I'll be writing and singing about "Occupy Wall Street" in the days and weeks to come.

One thing I started to do yesterday... I started to write a sequel to my song from 2004 called "Where'dat Money Go?"

I think it's time for an update. It's gonna take some work and it's gonna take some serious thought. Comedy is hard -- but it's even harder when you're dealing with truth and you wanna make a point.

Last Saturday I ran another brand new song past you guys that has to do with something else entirely. As the result, I'm pretty sure we've got a new song to debut with the band at "The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" on December 10th. (More about that in a minute.)

.

Okay TODAY... an awful lot of you have been sending me this video. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I can't be the only guy who ever thought of this. But, I do live and play my music in the middle of New York City, so it's entirely possible that William Bernbach, Ned Doyle or Maxwell Dane... or somebody who works for them at DDB, has hung out with me on "The Hill" and totally ripped-off this thought and this bit.

But y'know?

What're ya gonna do?

At least I can say with all honesty that I've been havin' a blast asking that question about that lyric for audiences for over 15 years. And I've had a lot of fun and made a lot of people laugh doing it! So... onto the next thing!

.

TOMORROW! I'll be back with another big batch of photos from this past Saturday. If you were out there with me for that ridiculously wonderful day, maybe you'll show up here at the site.

December is when it's time for all of us to get together in a beautiful venue in The Kaufman Center in Manhattan, for a night that has become an annual tradition for so many people. On Saturday night, December 10th we're all heading back to Merkin Concert Hall for...

"The Something'th Annual Year End Concert"

HERE A FEW VIDEOS FROM PAST SHOWS just to give you an idea what these gigs feel like. We have a lot of fun at these things. I always say, we laugh as much as we song every year. It's a great way to kick the year in the ass as it heads out the door.

This year is gonna be another blast. Every year I get to share a stage with some of the most amazing, funniest, most generous, good-hearted, fun artists anywhere... and that's at Merkin Concert Hall in The Kaufman Center in New York City. This year it's lookin' like the usual suspects... Geroge Wurzbach, Teresa Reynolds, Nelson Montana, Ryan Cavan, David Marcus and Chris Tedesco.

Yeah, I know right now December 10th might feel like a long way off. But this coming weekend is already the last weekend of September. And you know how it goes once we get into November, tickets start flying.

So, it might be a good idea to kinda plan your night around Saturday night, December 10th soon. Y'know? Call a few friends. See who's gonna be in town. See who feels like grabbing dinner in Manhattan that weekend and catching the show.

.

If you already know that you wanna be at this show and you wanna grab the very best seats, you can get them today!!!!

You can just call the box office directly:

FOR THE NEWCOMERS TO THIS SITE -- let me just share a little bit about some really exciting projects I've got on my plate. The first is this attempt to bring the whole "park" thing to a much larger audience.... maybe even the Broadway stage.

We're still looking of the right person to direct the piece and we could still use some help financially. We've raised about $20,000 for the workshop but could probably use about another $5,000 to get it on it's feet. So... if you're inclined to help (Or you're one of those people who just has too damned much money and wants to put it to good use!) ... this is what we're trying to do. Maybe it's time to reach a larger audience!!!! Maybe on Broadway!

Okay now you can find out how YOU can be a part of this new project here.

In a nutshell, we're putting together something that we hope is headed for Broadway or... Jupiter... or... I don't know. But it's gonna be done someplace. Broadway legend, TONY WALTON, a man who has more Tony Awards and Academy Awards than I have socks, is behind it 100%... so now it's just about getting the right team together and working it. I'll be inviting all of you to another one of those small, unplugged work sessions very soon, so keep checking back. The last 2 filled up in a matter of hours.

Here's a little 10-minute video from Tony and his wife... explaining the project.

And here's a link to visit if YOU wanna be a real part of this process.

I guess this would also be a good time to let you guys know that you can be a part of something else that will be uniquely New York. I mean, you can be a very real part of making something very cool become a reality. A friend of mine has this project he's wantin' to get off the ground and I think it's a damned good one. He's Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Dean Love, and this is really his baby. He's asked me to host it and help bring my artist-friends to the project as well... hopefully letting the whole world in on some of the wonderful things they're doing.

THERE

I guess if you've been coming around here at all, you know about this and that we need your help with it! It's a web-series / TV project that I've been telling you about over the past few months and we've finally launched it's funding campaign.

And then click here to visit the launch website to be a part of all of this. At the site you can see all the cool shit you get for joining this effort.

I'll be telling you guys a lot more about it over the next few weeks.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
