Welcome to all of you checking in from across the country and around the world.
Today, here in New York City, we're throwing out the welcome mat for Irene. She's not really gonna arrive until tomorrow.
BUT!
Parks Department Borough Commissioner, William T. Castro, has determined that ALL Special Events Permits have to be terminated by 2:00 today.
So will there be music in the park today?
.
But, I was told that we'll be given a make-up day. So I'm just gonna ride with the Permit Office guys at the Parks Department on this one. I'm thinking that maybe we'll get out there on September 17th after all. Or maybe we can just use a Sunday after another rain-out during the month of September. Whatever is easiest. whatever is best, We'll see. But I'll let you all know as soon a s I know.
That also means (And I can't believe this!) I'll see you guys next weekend...
.
..which is already Labor Day Weekend!
Now, every time we have a holiday weekend here in New York City, I like to do a little something special out on "The Hill". This year is no exception. Let me share a few photos with you guys from the day we had out there on July Fourth Weekend this year!
TODAY AT NOON... the entire mass transit system shuts down. No subways. No buses. (Now, I understand why they would want to shut down an underground electrical transportation system in a flood situation. But why they're are stopping bus service city-wide is a complete mystery to me. It's not like a city bus is gonna blow away.)
Whatever!
SO EVERYBODY IS KINDA STUCK IN THEIR OWN ZIP CODE FOR THE WEEKEND!
Y'know, I've always felt that the most beautiful month to hang out in Central Park with my guitar is September. Early in the Spring, the weather is perfect, cool and breezy... and in the summer both the human energy and the weather is fun and hot. But in September, it's the best of both worlds. The weather is perfect and the energy is fun and there's an air of anticipation with the change of seasons.
But like I always say... one of the very best things about being a "grownup" is that Summer ain't over until we say it is! So we still have a lot of music and great afternoons to share before the season is over. And remember, next weekend if Labor Day Weekend so... most of you know what happens out there!

SOMEONE ASKED ME ONCE...
David, what is it that you really wanna do with your Life and your music?
.
This is basically what I told him.
"I'd like to continue to do exactly what I'm doing right now. I wanna write the same songs and say the same things I'm saying. I wanna tell the same stories to let people know they're not alone. I wanna work with the same wonderful artists and hang with the same wonderful people I have in my Life now. I wanna do exactly what I'm doing right now. I just wanna do it...
... for a few million more people."
.
Make sense?
So there are 2 projects a handful of us are kickin' around. We sure would like the help of some professionals in both fields and we're actually seeking producers for both and a director for the Broadway project.
I always say that when you do what you love for a living, when you do what I do for a living, every day of a Life is a vacation day and every day is a work day. So Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Dean Love just went down to The Village this week with a coupld of friends to begin shooting the pitch video for an idea we've been kickin' around. It's an interactive, web-series called "THERE". (More about that very soon.)
The other project is this new Broadway show, tentatively called "Possibility Junkie". I'm gonna talk about this a little bit more tomorrow in the park if we get out there. I really feel that it's time to take the whole feeling we get in Central Park to a much larger audience. I'm just about to enter a new place where this little "Broadway" piece will really begin to come together. Now I'm just in the "dating" process... to find the right producers to make it a reality... and the right director/co-writer and creative producers to bring this thing to life.
Seriously. This is getting exciting. But then again... it's what I do. This is the kind of stuff that makes me live.
In a nutshell, we're putting together something that we hope is headed for Broadway or... Jupiter... or... I don't know. But it's gonna be done someplace. Broadway legend, TONY WALTON, a man who has more Tony Awards and Academy Awards than I have socks, is behind it 100%... so now it's just about getting the right team together and working it.
Here's a little 10-minute video from Tony and his wife... explaining the project.

Are you new here to this website? Now, you might be one of the people who's checking in here for the first time. (There are always a bunch of newcomers here at the site, especially in the Summer season. Bookmark it every day and check back. I'm gonna start bring more video to this page again very soon.)
If you're new you can always go back and browse through THE ARCHIVE as far back as you wanna go. I mean... thanks to my friend, my webmaster, and resident evil genius James Marino, you can historically go back through this website all the way back through the Bush years right up until the present. It's really kinda freaky how much content is here on this site.... cartoons, free songs, Photoshop images. Very cool.
And the Photo Galleries just keep growing. (Maybe you're in there!!!).
.
AND HERE'S A REALLY FUN GALLERY FROM LAST SUMMER!!!

Here are a couple of different fun galleries to check out.

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
