If you were out there in Central Park this past Saturday, I just hafta say...
THANKS AGAIN!
.
I'm still shakin' off the good feeling.
(Now wait a minute! Why in the hell would I wanna shake off a good feeling!? Let's just say... I'm still feelin' it!)

Okay, today I wanna say a little something about...
BEING REALISTIC
A good friend of mine recently offered me some advice. I know it came from a place of love. But it was basically about being "realistic" in this world.
It's kinda funny. In a very circuitous way, it once again made me feel so good about my life. It became a very left-handed affirmation of who I want to be as a man and as a human being. It was basically a very sweet email suggesting that I try to be a little more "realistic" about some things. But I mean, I know an awful lot of people who would say, "Writing songs and singin' them for people -- being 'That Guitar Man from Central Park' is an unrealistic way to make a living." And yet, I've been doing it for 20 years. Most of these people have very "realistic" jobs and very "realistic" careers. I wonder sometimes how that's workin' out for them. All I know is that I wouldn't trade places. Even if they're looking forward to retiring from their realistic careers after 20 years! I feel like I'm always just gettin' started! Something about being a "dreamer" I guess. Y'know? People pay an awful lotta money to go to a movie... but the story is most often about something or someone doing something that is unrealistic.
I have another dear friend who's done some amazing things in his life -- things that have changed the world in many ways. But I'm sure many people around him often said, "Oh man. You hafta be realistic. You don't have the money to put The Beatles in a place the size of Shea Stadium."
This same friend was in his 40s when he married a pretty girl in her 20s back in the 1960s. I'm sure people said they were being unrealistic. They now have 6 grown children and a growing flock of grandchildren.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm not a huge fan of the world "unrealistic". Because just about every fact of my life would be considered unrealistic to many, many people. And I like my life jus' fine!
Now, I'm talkin' about other people. This only comes in the one-person-single-serving size. I'm just talkin' about... me. I don't know what it's like for other people. Everybody is living their own reality. But me? I'm a dreamer. And I love the thought of chasing incredibly, unrealistic things in my life.
You may say I'm a dreamer
But, I'm not the only one.
I have every reason to be jazzed about the day I had last Saturday. I mean it. Life is such a f*cking adventure if we're willing to really live it. I mean, I learned about 20 years ago that Life is not a problem to be solved... but a mystery to be lived.
For anyone new around here... you can always go back and browse through THE ARCHIVE as far back as you wanna go. I mean... thanks to my friend, my webmaster, and resident evil genius James Marino, you can historically go back through this website all the way back. It's really kinda freaky how much content is here on this site.... cartoons, free songs, Photoshop images. Very cool.
In a way, we were dealt a little setback with the Broadway project... but that just means it's time to go another way.
For you guys who were out there in Central Park last Saturday, here's another batch of photos for you.

Hey listen guys... I already told you that we were not given the Special Events Permit I applied for this weekend. I understand that there is some huge, 2-day event going on in the park this weekend, so we're gonna hafta miss each other on Saturday. But, there are a couple of really cool things comin' up and I'm gonna ask for your help on one of them.
This thing... listen, it's not something I do for money. This is something I just love being a part of and I think you guys will wanna be, too. PLUS, it's a good reason for another chance to get together and share some music and laughs. It's just a bunch of beautiful people to get behind and I've been playing music for them for a few years now. Baseline Wheelchair Tennis.
And then come back here and click on this banner, make a phone call and reserve a spot at this really amazing event.

Bob Waldman is the man at the helm of this event. Good guy. You can see him on my album cover "I Love the Company"! Give him a call and make sure you get a ticket to this thing. (And bring some friends!)

Hell, it's a Wednesday night and it's over by 8:30!!! And honestly... as much as I appreciated all the supportive and positive email I got last week, it will really do my heart good and make me smile to see you guys showing up for something like this!
.
And I wanna say a special thanks to the Marriott Courtyard Hotel on East 92nd Street for donating a couple of rooms for the tennis players who are flying in for this event. You guys at that Marriott ROCK! (And thank Laura Manske for settin' that up.)
Welcome to all you newcomers! WELCOME to you if this is your first time here at the website! I hope you bookmark it and check back every day. It's become a very fun, very under-the-radar little New York Secret. You can always keep up with the cool stuff that's goin' on around me and my music and all the amazing people in this circle of friends and fellow-artists.

NOW! About that "Broadway" thang!
Maybe it's time to reach a larger audience!!!! Maybe on Broadway!
In a nutshell, we're putting together something that we hope is headed for Broadway or... Jupiter... or... I don't know. But it's gonna be done someplace. Broadway legend, TONY WALTON, a man who has more Tony Awards and Academy Awards than I have socks, is behind it 100%... so now it's just about getting the right team together and working it. I'll be inviting all of you to another one of those small, unplugged work sessions very soon, so keep checking back. The last 2 filled up in a matter of hours.
Here's a little 10-minute video from Tony and his wife... explaining the project.
Here's another beautiful moment on a hot, hot summer afternoon in Central Park when a girl named Frankie asked me if she could sing a great George Harrison song for the crowd. One of the things that really touched was the way a few hundred people sounded... so gently singing "do-do-do-doo" to help out in the sweetest way.

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
