Well, here we are in a new week. And today I'm working on those 2 new songs.
I always say that songs are like bananas and base hits...
.
.
.
They come in bunches.
.
.
.
Can't wait to work on them this week and maybe run them by you next Saturday!
I'm gonna be playing a very short, very cool, very special event this Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30. Check back here tomorrow, okay?
This past Saturday... man! We did it again.
Y'know, it was the first time in a long time I was flying completely solo with my guitar for the entire day. But it reminded me that what I do is never completely solo. It's never... "just me". In fact, I have never once in 20 years said, "It's just me". The thing I've become known for saying is...
"It's just us".
Saturday was another perfect example of how powerful that can be. I played for over 5 and half hours and it flew. It just flew. We laughed and smiled and sang and shed a few tears and... and laughed some more. And it was "just us".
Here are a bunch of photos from this Saturday which was just another typically amazing day.

These were sent in to the website from Laura Manske. More photos tomorrow from David Hayase and Alexandra Steedman and others and all week.
Now, most of you regulars around here know what this is all about. This week I'm gonna be lettin' all of you know what I can find out about the whole Dr. Phil Show thing. I did the interview last week and I really feel like I said what I wanted to say about the whole matter without naming names over at Hudson River Park Trust. Those people handled this whole thing so very, very poorly as professionals and as human beings... but I'm not about to embarrass them on national television..

It's so amazing for me to know that there are sooooooo many of you here in New York, across the country and around the world who "get" what I'm about as an artist and the kind of man I am. It's nice to know there are so many sweet people in this world who would take the time to email and let me know they feel the same way about these things as I do.
It's so funny. In the last few weeks the nonsense about "That Guitar Man" flying around the net from blog to blog... everyone with an opinion. It's so telling in 21st century America that so many people feel they have a valid opinion about my behavior on June 24th without being there... or without ever having seen what I do with a guitar and a crowd of people. Articles and blogs are written that get ALL of the facts wrong, miss the spirit of what happened and blatantly lie about me. THEN!!! The "comments" from people, with nothing better to do, start! One leads to another and to another until people are offering opinions about a reality could only exist in some other Universe! some get so angry and begin railing about stuff about which they have NO knowledge and they didn't witness.
But I guess that's the world we live in these days. It's probably the world we've always lived in... the internet just enables us to be aware that small-minded people develop opinions without "knowing" anything.
I've gotten used to it, doing what I do for a living and it amuses me most of the time.
But a 19th century political theorist and naturalist named Herbert Spencer said something which has become one of my favorite quotes over the past 20 years. Her said...
"There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance - that principle is...
...contempt prior to investigation"
.
.
Many people in this country seem to live by that principle these days.
GIMME A SHOUT HERE!
Maybe we'll talk all about this stuff on Broadway one of these days. While we're singing and laughin' through this show, it'll certainly be about Love and Reason and Principle. We're still looking of the right person to direct the piece and we could still use some help financially. We've raised about $20,000 for the workshop but could probably use about another $5,000 to get it on it's feet. So... if you're inclined to help (Or you're one of those people who just has too damned much money and wants to put it to good use!) ... this is what we're trying to do. Maybe it's time to reach a larger audience!!!! Maybe on Broadway!
In a nutshell, we're putting together something that we hope is headed for Broadway or... Jupiter... or... I don't know. But it's gonna be done someplace. Broadway legend, TONY WALTON, a man who has more Tony Awards and Academy Awards than I have socks, is behind it 100%... so now it's just about getting the right team together and working it. I'll be inviting all of you to another one of those small, unplugged work sessions very soon, so keep checking back. The last 2 filled up in a matter of hours.
Here's a little 10-minute video from Tony and his wife... explaining the project.
Welcome to all you newcomers! WELCOME to you if this is your first time here at the website! I hope you bookmark it and check back every day. It's become a very fun, very under-the-radar little New York Secret. You can always keep up with the cool stuff that's goin' on around me and my music and all the amazing people in this circle of friends and fellow-artists.
You can always go back and browse through THE ARCHIVE as far back as you wanna go. I mean... thanks to my friend, my webmaster, and resident evil genius James Marino, you can historically go back through this website all the way back through the Bush years right up until the present. It's really kinda freaky how much content is here on this site.... cartoons, free songs, Photoshop images. Very cool.

VIDEO TIME
Here's a fun song... inspired last year by America's fascination with Bristol Palin, an unwed mother and attention hound who was suddenly being called a "star" on a national TV show... a song I wrote and debuted at "The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" last December.

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
