Welcome to the website.

I hafta start out today's update by thanking every single person who wrote and shared their thoughts and feelings about the news this week. It honestly helps me to do what I need to do with my work and my music. It also feels really good to know how many people care enough to take the time to write.

I couldn't post all of the comments I received. But I posted a truly representative sample of the reactions I received to my question from Monday's Update.

You can read the comments here.

Once again, I couldn't post all of the comments I received. But I promise I read every single one. (I respect nearly all of the views surrounding the question I asked... although it became pretty clear from some of the later submissions that a few people who got a little insulting had very little understanding of what I was saying or asking.)

But that's typical of a certain mindset.

Moving on.

Now...

.

.

I've got some interesting and fun news today about the new project. But before I get to the update about this theatrical piece we're workin' on around here, I have another question for all of you.

.

Click on this photo to ask: What is this fool,
Donald Trump, up to now!?

(Please feel free to download that photo or copy and paste it anywhere and everywhere around the internet....send it to your friends, send it to Donald. Hopefully, he'll get the hint that people think he's a fool and he'll disappear... okay, maybe for a little while.)

Y'know what? For any newcomers, let's start off with a little Photo Gallery from last summer's outdoor season... in Central Park and down on Pier 45 in the Village.

Okay, back to work. Here's just a little update on the project.

I tapped my friend and colleague, George Wurzbach, to be the musical director on this new show. After banging out the first really good draft of the book and figuring out what music gets in and what to leave out, I think we're gonna be ready pretty soon to do another work session for a LIVE audience.

Of course, this session will be in a larger, more comfortable theater than the last 2 sessions and I'm thinking that I'll have Teresa and George on stage with me to give the audience an experience closer to what the thing will ultimately be like with a band on stage.

I'll let you know when that event comes up.

But while today is a rainy, rainy day in New York City, I just have a feeling next weekend is going to be 70 degrees and sunny. So I'm asking you way in advance, don't get all bent out of shape. Don't let it ruin your day, your week or even a moment. We have a lot of wonderful and beautiful things comin' up, lots of very worthwhile things to work on in the meantime.

Here's the main thing I'm workin' on right now. It's what I do. This is the kind of stuff that makes me live. Creating something where there was nothing. Y'know? Following the next inspiration. Taking the next chance. Hmmmm. Y'know?

There is no song. Now there's a song.

There is no play. Now... there's a play.

The more I run this idea and this project passed other Creative spirits, the more I begin to realize it's potential to say something good. I have a feeling it's time now for the "Dating Process" to begin... I mean... to start looking for the right person to direct this show. It's gotta be someone who really "gets it" and has an exciting vision for it.

Here's a video from Academy Award-winner Tony Walton and his wife.

We're trying to put a theatrical piece together that, hopefully, will be a positive thing.

I wanna welcome everyone who's checking in from different parts of the country and different parts of the world. Here in New York City, me and a circle of friends and artists are kickin' around an idea for a theater piece that many think oughta try to find it's way to Broadway. Maybe it'll be better served as a looser, smaller off-Broadway gig.

We'll see.

OKAY... ABOUT THE WORKSHOP!!!!

.

SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?

You are everything. Just like on "The Hill" in Central Park, none of this happens if you don't show up. The 3 most important things we need from you...

1. A generous donation of real money. (Yeah, like everything else... it's gonna take money to actually make it happen.)

2. Your suggestions about what you'd like to see in the show... which songs move you, which make you laugh, which songs and stories you think a Broadway audience will get the most out of and enjoy the most.

3. We need you to take it upon yourself to be a little Paul Revere-ish... take it upon yourself to spread the word about this project every day to friends and family. Make it your own. We need you to come up with Creative ideas to get the word out about this effort.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
