It's either the week leading up to "Opening Day" in Central Park to begin The 20th Year at "The Hill"... which is gonna be very cool.
Or! It's the last week before "Judgment Day" and the beginning of the end of the world and the entire Universe. (Which, y'know... would put a crimp on the Summer.)
First things first...
Welcome to anyone who is checkin' in from a different part of the country or a different part of the world. Here in New York City... man! We're just having a week of rain and fog and drizzle and autumnal temperatures. But I have a feeling that the weather is going to be perfect on Saturday. If I'm right, I'll be heading out to "The Hill" by the Lake with my guitar to begin another season of music and laughs. If you're new here and you need a little catchin' up... for any newcomers, let's start off with a little Photo Gallery from last summer's outdoor season... in Central Park and down on Pier 45 in the Village.
Okay, this weekend... The Yankees were swept by The Red Sox in a 3-game series. That's not particularly fun, but it ain't the end of the world!
I mention the end-of-the-world stuff because this past weekend the followers of Bible teacher Harold Camping have made their way here to NYC, or the Sodom and Gomorrah of the East Coast, to warn us all that Jesus is coming back on Saturday, and that if we don't repent and follow them we are not going to be "saved". In fact, if you've seen their vans and their billboards, or IF YOU'VE BEEN APPROACHED by any of them...
As an artist and student of human nature I have been watching Camping and these people with utter fascination on Time Warner Cable's channel 96 for about a year now. Y'see, if you're "saved" or you're one of the "true believers" you're going to be "raptured" or caught up to heaven for all eternity in the new heaven an the earth. But if you're not saved... well, you're shit-outta-luck. It's gonna be 5 months of earthquakes and suffering and hell-on-earth before all the lights really go out for good on October 21.
Now remember... I'm the man who wrote The Religion Song. But I woke up on Sunday with the most remarkable thought about this whole concept!!!
It might surprise you. I'll post it this week.
But first I wanna know what you guys think. Is there a chance that Saturday is "Judgment Day"? Is this the end of the world? If the Bible and Mr. Camping are correct, what are you planning to do with your last week!?
Now before you start writing me that these people are insane... (which they clearly are.) ...take a look at your own religion if you happen to be a religious person! Try explaining any of the world's religions to someone from another planet and see how "sane" you sound yourself!
Just in case they're wrong... I'm gonna keep working on this new show. After 20 years of being "That Guitar Man from Central Park" it's time to tell the story in a whole new way for a much larger audience.
TODAY, once again let me share the video from Academy Award-winner Tony Walton and his wife.
We're trying to put a theatrical piece together that, hopefully, will be a positive thing.

I'm really enjoying all of your comments about the newest songs, so keep 'em comin'! This was the LIVE debut of this next song in December here in NYC.
For you guys again today... the entire concert..."The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" is here for you to watch. Go make a pot of coffee. Pour yourself some tea or a nice glass of wine and sit back and watch this thing. Plug in some headphones or some earbuds if you feel like it. You can actually jump around and watch different parts o the show.
We had such a great time again this year in that theater!
(The audio got a little funky during Teresa Reynolds' Christmas song... but I'm do everything I can to fix that sooner than later. Check back.)

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
