Today is "Get-Outta-Town Day" for so many people here in New York City.
But me?
Nope, on holiday weekends I stay right here in town and on Saturday afternoon, head to Central Park with my guitar. I know there are an awful lot of you reading this in different parts of the world. But here in the U.S., this weekend is the "unofficial" start of the summer season. And so for a lot of people here in New York City today is...
Get outta town day!
.
But for people like me, it's the start exactly the kind of weekend I really love in this town.
It's when most parts of the city, except for the HUGE tourist areas like Times Square and South Ferry, slow down... quiet down. Streets on the Upper West side, Upper East Side, The Village, SoHo all kinda empty out a little and the pace is more relaxed and easy. I love this town all the time. But I really love hangin' out on holiday weekends in the summer when so many millions of people are frantically and frenetically hitting the road so they can get someplace else.... to relax.
So yeah, tomorrow I'm gonna kick back, put my guitar on my shoulder and head to Central Park. It's the Unofficial start to the SUMMER!!!
As George Harrison once said... ...been a long, cold, lonely winter!
If you're new to all of this, here's a little map that will help you find us in New York City's beautiful 843 acre backyard.
You can click on this image for a larger, printable version.
If you're like me and you're gonna stay in town tomorrow, I hope I see you out there!
Are you new here to this website? Are you checking it to see if I'm back in the park? Is this your first time here? if you're lookin' for a whole bunch of photos to see what it is we do out in Central Park every year... if you're new here and you need a little catchin' up... for any newcomers, you can check out this little Photo Gallery from last summer's outdoor season... in Central Park and down on Pier 45 in the Village.

You can always hit THE ARCHIVE and catch up with what's been going on.

This week I think we found our director for the new "stage" project. As soon as I meet with her again, and I introduce her to George, and maybe set up a meeting with her and Tony Walton... I'm gonna introduce you guys to her. I've been holding off booking the next work session until I had an idea if this wonderful woman was on board for the ride. It looks like she is. So I'll let you guys know when you can reserve a seat at that thing if you wanna be a part of this development process. (The last 2 work sessions filled up in about 4 hours!)
In a nutshell, we're putting together something that we hope is headed for Broadway or... Jupiter... or... I don't know. But it's gonna be done someplace. Broadway legend, TONY WALTON, a man who has more Tony Awards and Academy Awards than I have socks, is behind it 100%... so now it's just about getting the right team together and working it. I'll be inviting all of you to another one of those small, unplugged work sessions very soon, so keep checking back. The last 2 filled up in a matter of hours.
Here's a little 10-minute video from Tony and his wife... explaining the project.
WATCH THESE VIDEOS IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY -- and then shoot me an email to tell me if you think they might become a part of the story.

I'm really enjoying all of your comments about the newest songs, so keep 'em comin'! This was the LIVE debut of this next song in December here in NYC.
For you guys again today... the entire concert..."The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" is here for you to watch. Go make a pot of coffee. Pour yourself some tea or a nice glass of wine and sit back and watch this thing. Plug in some headphones or some earbuds if you feel like it. You can actually jump around and watch different parts o the show.
We had such a great time again this year in that theater!
(The audio got a little funky during Teresa Reynolds' Christmas song... but I'm do everything I can to fix that sooner than later. Check back.)

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
