Welcome to the website.

Hope all you mutha's had a good weekend.

I'm still smiling from all the good work I got done this weekend, all the good friends in my life, all the possibilities on the horizon.

But man! We really do live in such a pinball machine. One minute we're bombarded with nonsensical news about an English couple who had an over-the-top and anachronistic wedding in another country. Then even more nonsensical attention was paid to a carnival-barker, huckster named Trump.

With last week's news about Osama bin Laden, the pinball ricochets one more time and the bullshit surrounding Trump and the royal wedding already seems like months ago.

Actually a wackjob like Trump would make me angry if I thought he meant one word that comes out of his mouth. But he is just the P.T. Barnum of our day... looking for the next sucker to help him make a his next dollar. So no... Trump doesn't make me angry by stirring mistrust and bigotry in the easily influenced with his groundless hysterics about the president for the sake of his TV ratings. He doesn't make me angry.

But after my head-shaking chuckling, he does however... disgust me.

Kinda wild, too. I got sooooooo many amazing email responses to that simple comment I made and the question I posted about the death of Osama Bin Laden last week that it blew me away. And while 99% of them were from kindred spirits... the messages that came from the angry and disapproving people gave me the greatest lift.

To be clear... like most sane people I never said the killing of Osama bin Laden was a bad thing. I never said I wasn't relieved that the world was rid of this evil man. I was simply saddened by those who treated it like a sporting event and mindlessly celebrated as if they'd won a round in the playoffs with chants of U.S.A. - U.S.A. (And so the seeds of hate are sown that grow from war to war.)

Many people of certain mindset who wrote in don't care to take the time to really read a person's words or make the slightest effort to seek to understand what another might be trying to say. Instead they react in the most predictable ways, with words meant to insult.

Just gives me a lift. Makes me grateful to be among so many more thoughtful, sensitive, caring, loving, creative people. Gives me a renewed sense of purpose and fun.

And man! We've got a lot of work to do!!!

THIS WEEK! I'm rehearsing a brand new song with the beautiful and talented Teresa Reynolds. It's something that I just wrote for a very special young couple who are getting married this week. It's still kind of a work-in-progress. Then I'll be running the same song and a few others with another crowd favorite... violinist, fiddle-player, guitarist, mandolin player and singer/songwriter Chris Tedesco.

This week I'm also gonna attend a kind of speed-dating event for playwrights and composers and directors to hook up on potential projects. (No... not real speed-dating. Although... maybe that wouldn't be a bad idea either! I'm so clueless these days!!!) This is an event by a creative Broadway producer named Ken Davenport. I'm looking forward to seeing what this is all about.

So... quite a week.

Oh listen! If you go back through the ARCHIVE and you want to respond to anything that you read here at the site, or feel like making a comment about the music or the work or the things being said here, you can always shoot me an email and tell me anything that's on your mind. (I can't personally answer all of the email I get. But I promise that I read every single one!)

OH! And...yes it was a beautiful Spring day on Saturday and NO... I wasn't in Central Park yesterday. We weren't given the Special Events Permit need to begin the season. In fact, the first permit isn't valid for two weeks. So weather-permitting, I'll be seeing you guys for the first time on Saturday, May 21.

After that, it's anybody's guess how often the permit office is gonna allow us to hang together at "The Hill". (Yes, the promise made by administrator Doug Blonsky in 2000 was for one day a weekend. We'll see how that holds up this year. Honestly... I'm not optimistic about that.)

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
