Rainy, rainy, rainy days here in New York City. All week. I'm kinda thinkin' that all of this rain is gonna make it out of town by Friday night and we're gonna have us a beautiful Opening Day in Central Park on Saturday. I know a lot of you are checking in here from different parts of the country and different parts of the world. But if you're in or around The Big Apple this Saturday, I hope, I see you out on "The Hill" for the beginning of the 20th year... 20 years of "That Guitar Man from Central Park". (Freaks me out. That is so cool.)
If you're new here and you need a little cathcin' up... for any newcomers, let's start off with a little Photo Gallery from last summer's outdoor season... in Central Park and down on Pier 45 in the Village.

If you're new around here, you can always hit THE ARCHIVE and catch up with what's been going on around here.

I've been working on this new theatrical project over the winter (Further down the page) and I'm gonna have a good time sharing it as it develops with all of "The People on the Hill" this year. I'm also upgrading the sound system we use out there, so I think it's gonna be a great sounding summer. Hope you guys are ready to sing together.
I'm really looking forward to strapping my guitar on my shoulder and hangin' with you guys again. Of course, there is one thing that might put a little crimp on the day. That is if the world starts to end this Saturday. Could really suck, y'know?
Y'see, according to a Bible teacher named Harold Camping and legions of his followers, this happens to be the last week before Judgment Day, when all the true believers fly away to heaven. And then the end of the world and the whole Universe for the rest of us happens just 5 months later after a little hell-on-earth.
I know. I know. If you read yesterday's update you're probably thinkin', "Holy smokes, David! You're thinkin' about these people just a little too much!"
I just find it kind of fascinating. Well, I actually find committed belief in any of the world's religions head-shakingly fascinating. That's why I wrote The Religion Song.
Quickly -- according to the Bible, Jesus is coming back to judge the human race this Saturday. He makes his entrance with devastating earthquakes that are gonna start at the beginning of the international timeline and work their way around the world as the Sun sets. Now simultaneously, all the chosen "saved" people, the "True Believers", are gonna get new bodies and start rising up to spend eternity with Jesus in the new heaven. The rest of us are gonna be left behind for 5 months of suffering, chaos and agony before the whole world shrivels to a cinder on October 21. (Oh, I forgot to mention -- all those who've been "saved" since the beginning of time are also gonna rise from their graves to fly to heaven. All of those "unsaved" who died since the beginning of time.... well, all of their bodies, or whatever is left, are gonna pop out the grave to just lay there and be shamed in the eyes of God. (That's just not gonna smell great.)
Got it?
The caravans of True Believers made their way to New York City to warn us this past weekend. They've got billboards near Times Square, buses driving up and down the avenues, and people handing out warning fliers. (Kind funny. I read someplace that one of these people said they were amazed at the wonderful success they were having. He said, "We handed out over 3,000 fliers!" I'm not sure he understands that there are 3,000 people living on my block.)
.
Okay, but if you watch these people on Time Warner cable's channel 96 (They actually have their own worldwide television network!) ...you will see them with their Bible's in their laps listening to Camping and anxiously awaiting their trip to heaven. They're all hoping that they are the "chosen" who will get the free ride to heaven for all time.
And I'd love to know what you guys think. Especially if you've had an encounter with any of these folks when they hit town this past weekend. AND -- if you feel that this is really the end of the world... what do you plan to do this week and for the next 5 months!?
Okay! Let's leave the Bible and the Torah and the Quran and all the rest and get back to reality!

Just in case they're wrong... I'm gonna keep working on this new show. After 20 years of being "That Guitar Man from Central Park" it's time to tell the story in a whole new way for a much larger audience.
TODAY, once again let me share the video from Academy Award-winner Tony Walton and his wife.
We're trying to put a theatrical piece together that, hopefully, will be a positive thing.

I'm really enjoying all of your comments about the newest songs, so keep 'em comin'! This was the LIVE debut of this next song in December here in NYC.
For you guys again today... the entire concert..."The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" is here for you to watch. Go make a pot of coffee. Pour yourself some tea or a nice glass of wine and sit back and watch this thing. Plug in some headphones or some earbuds if you feel like it. You can actually jump around and watch different parts o the show.
We had such a great time again this year in that theater!
(The audio got a little funky during Teresa Reynolds' Christmas song... but I'm do everything I can to fix that sooner than later. Check back.)

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
