The Sun is gonna come out on Saturday. And I'm heading out to Central Park with my guitar. I'll put it on my shoulder and hang out by The Lake in front of that little grassy hill just north of Strawberry Fields. Then I'm gonna start singin' some songs and see who shows up... see how many New Yorkers, and people from different parts of the country and different parts of the world feel like hangin' out with me. No record label. No agent. No managers. Nobody to tell us what to do. Just a guitar and a whole bunch of stories and songs.
This Saturday will be the first time in 2011 I'll be out in the park to share an afternoon of music and laughs with a crowd of strangers. But it's not the first time I've done this.
This will be DAY ONE of the twentieth summer I've been "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I hafta be honest with you... I know that "time" does not really exist, but still it feels kinda special. Twenty years is a long time to be doin' anything. I mean, I've been singin' my songs for an entire generation here in the greatest city on earth.
.
You gonna kick it off with me?
.
There's something inside me, that Little voice that doesn't lie to us, telling me I'm doing exactly what I'm meant to be doing. I have a feeling I was meant to do this kind of thing since I was a boy... creating things, helping people laugh a little, telling stories, helping them think, writing songs and basically letting people know that they're not alone. I feel like the luckiest man alive to have been able to carve out a little place in this world with a piece of wood string with silver wire.
If you're new here and you need a little cathcin' up... for any newcomers, let's start off with a little Photo Gallery from last summer's outdoor season... in Central Park and down on Pier 45 in the Village.

Gonna be starting another "outdoor" season of memories and laughs this weekend. I always wonder what's gonna happen over the course of the season in the park... who I'm going to meet, what uniquely New York things are gonna happen.
If you're new around here, you can always hit THE ARCHIVE and catch up with what's been going on around here.

Now earlier this week I did a couple of updates about the people who are claiming that the Bible is predicting this Saturday as Judgment Day signalling the end of the world. You can read those update's here if you feel like it. It's kind of fascinating to me on many levels.
(But I'm not gonna waste any time today on those poor people.)
After 20 years of being "That Guitar Man from Central Park" it's time to tell the story in a whole new way for a much larger audience.
TODAY, once again let me share the video from Academy Award-winner Tony Walton and his wife.
We're trying to put a theatrical piece together that, hopefully, will be a positive thing.

I'm really enjoying all of your comments about the newest songs, so keep 'em comin'! This was the LIVE debut of this next song in December here in NYC.
For you guys again today... the entire concert..."The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" is here for you to watch. Go make a pot of coffee. Pour yourself some tea or a nice glass of wine and sit back and watch this thing. Plug in some headphones or some earbuds if you feel like it. You can actually jump around and watch different parts o the show.
We had such a great time again this year in that theater!
(The audio got a little funky during Teresa Reynolds' Christmas song... but I'm do everything I can to fix that sooner than later. Check back.)

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
