In fact, you can email me here about anything at all... anything on your mind.
Gotta say "Hey" to all of you who are checking in from different parts of the country and different parts of the world. Here comes another season in which I'm gonna get to share music and laughs with thousands of New Yorkers and people who visit here from across the country and around the world. I'm a very lucky man.
For any newcomers, let's start off with a little Photo Gallery from last summer's outdoor season... in Central Park and down on Pier 45 in the Village.

Today is Friday the 13th.

Good day for a wedding.
.
I'm serious. My niece, Katie, and the great guy she's marrying picked today to be their wedding day. I think that's just one of the things that is sooooo cool about this young couple. They also asked me if I could get the wonderful violinist Chris Tedesco to join me and play a few songs for them at the affair, so I though it might be a fun idea to actually write a song for them.
Now a long time ago, my sister Sue (Kate's mom) asked me to sing at her wedding. I wasn't really writing back then, but I sang a beautiful song by Stephen Schwartz called "With You". So I thought it might be a cool idea to take a run at writing a wedding song for Kate and Nate called "With Me".
When the song began to take shape and I laid down a rough demo, I instantly knew that it had to be sung by Teresa Reynolds. The more I kicked it round, I realized that it wanted to be a duet. So... today along with Teresa and Chris I'm heading out to Long Island to do this song for the very first time. It will be the first the 3 of us are in the same place. I'm really excited to hear it for the first time.
Since it's lookin' like it might rain this weekend, and since we weren't issued the permits I applied for from The Parks Department to begin our "outdoor" season in Central Park anyway... I think I wanna begin recording this thing so you guys can hear it too.
ONE MORE OF THE REALLY COOL THINGS ABOUT COMING UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THIS LOVE SONG IS THIS...
...because of where this lyric led me, I've already been inspired to write the next song!!!

Just a little more fun today. I posted this earlier this week. It's just too well done not to pass it on again.
I posted this for the thousands of "Birthers in the Closet"!
Human nature being what it is, I hafta suspect from some of the emails I've gotten here at the website over the years that there are people out there who would never be bold enough or open enough to call themselves "birthers"... but were secretly harboring a desire to find out that the president was not a natural born American citizen.
I laughed almost all the way through this video.
(Hey listen... I've been supremely disappointed in this president for a number of reasons, from caving in on a real public health care plan to the non-accountability for torturing people in my name. But about a third of the people in this country are just plain "off their nut" and have an irrationally skewed perception of this man.... and another percentage just don't have the balls to admit it out loud.)
Ha! Moving on.

Man! I love this life.
It's just my job to write about the things that are in my mind and in my heart. Now... it's about time to tell the story in a new way. So now we're working on bringing a new music-theater-piece to the stage. I tapped my friend and colleague, George Wurzbach, to be the musical director on this new show. After banging out the first really good draft of the book and figuring out what music gets in and what to leave out, I think we're gonna be ready pretty soon to do another work session for a LIVE audience.
Of course, this session will be in a larger, more comfortable theater than the last 2 sessions and I'm thinking that I'll have Teresa Reynolds and George on stage with me to give the audience an experience closer to what the thing will ultimately be like with a band on stage.
I'll let you know when that event comes up.
The more I run this idea and this project passed other Creative spirits, the more I begin to realize it's potential to say something good. I have a feeling it's time now for the "Dating Process" to begin... I mean... to start looking for the right person to direct this show. It's gotta be someone who really "gets it" and has an exciting vision for it.
Here's a video from Academy Award-winner Tony Walton and his wife.
We're trying to put a theatrical piece together that, hopefully, will be a positive thing.

I wanna welcome everyone who's checking in from different parts of the country and different parts of the world. Here in New York City, me and a circle of friends and artists are kickin' around an idea for a theater piece that many think oughta try to find it's way to Broadway. Maybe it'll be better served as a looser, smaller off-Broadway gig.
We'll see.

I'm really enjoying all of your comments about the newest songs, so keep 'em comin'! This was the LIVE debut of this next song in December here in NYC.
For you guys again today... the entire concert..."The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" is here for you to watch. Go make a pot of coffee. Pour yourself some tea or a nice glass of wine and sit back and watch this thing. Plug in some headphones or some earbuds if you feel like it. You can actually jump around and watch different parts o the show.
We had such a great time again this year in that theater!
(The audio got a little funky during Teresa Reynolds' Christmas song... but I'm do everything I can to fix that sooner than later. Check back.)

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
