Hope you had a great weekend. Here we are in a new week.
Me?
I had a fine weekend because I actually got a lot of work done on the new theatrical project. It's really cool when you love your work and your lucky enough to be doing exactly what you feel you're meant to be doing. I like to tell people that, for me, every day of my Life is a work day and every day is a vacation day.
I did a little "Today in History" kinda thing in Sunday's update, but was really amazed at what a big "nuthin'" day it was! I don't know what I was expecting. But today is a new day, unparallelled by any other moment in eternity. Good news for a "possibility Junkie" like me. If you're new around here, you can always hit THE ARCHIVE and catch up with what's been going on around here. The updates have been a little slow around here the past week or so. That's kinda likely to continue, because this new project is taking priority over this website. But you gotta keep checking back every day to keep up with the "next thing".
AND... we're getting really close to opening our 20th season in Central Park. We're 4 weeks away from the start of another outdoor season. It looks like May 21 is gonna be opening day!
COINCIDENTALLY!!!!!
MAY 21
There is a whole community of people living in America who are convinced that, according to the literal interpretation of the Bible, May 21 is the day of judgment, signalling the end of the world.
This week, I'm gonna bring you some of their stuff here at the website.
One of the foremost proponents of this most recent brand of "Judgment Day" lunacy is a biblical-wingnut named Harold Camping.
I love this guy. I watch him on TV almost every day. I'm serious. It's kind of the same reason I watch Glenn Beck's show for as long as I can stomach it. Just like Beck, this man is a fascination for me... kind of a study in what can go horribly wrong with people. This is a little different, though. I started watching Camping's show called "Open Forum" on Time Warner Cable's channel 96 about a year ago. Since then, I watch him and his followers with increasing utter fascination. Seriously. I can't help myself. It's like a bizarre study in the nuttiest side of both human nature and religion. And as is the case with all religious biblical scholars, these people are completely and sincerely convinced that the Bible is the literal word of a god -- and by "literal" I mean... "literal" when it suits their interpretation.
But these particular people are great!
Now listen, I'm planning on being in Central Park with my friends and fellow New Yorkers, my guitar on my shoulder on May 21... singing and laughing with beautiful people from all across the country and around the world who are visiting this wonderful city.
BUT according to these folks, it's gonna be a wild day of earthquakes, people popping out of their graves, people who are "saved" who will be flying up to heaven... and Jesus will be coming back to give them a lift. We live in New York City which is home to many evolved, rational, kind of sane people. But these people have been buying billboard space and advertising all across this country.
I'm tellin' you... it's fascinating.

I feel a song coming on.
More later.

Well, I already have a song called "THE RELIGION SONG" and I can promise it will be included in the score of the new Broadway show I'm working on.
So, many cool people. So much enthusiasm about this idea. (Hell, after hangin' with all of you in Central Park for 20 years, I guess an idea like this was bound to come along.)
HERE WATCH THE VIDEO!!!!
Here's an Academy Award-winner, an Emmy Award-winner, a man who's won several Tony Awards... and his lovely wife to explain!

SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?
You are everything. Just like on "The Hill" in Central Park, none of this happens if you don't show up. The 3 most important things we need from you...
1. A generous donation of real money. (Yeah, like everything else... it's gonna take money to actually make it happen.)
2. Your suggestions about what you'd like to see in the show... which songs move you, which make you laugh, which songs and stories you think a Broadway audience will get the most out of and enjoy the most.
3. We need you to take it upon yourself to be a little Paul Revere-ish... take it upon yourself to spread the word about this project every day to friends and family. Make it your own. We need you to come up with Creative ideas to get the word out about this effort.

I'm really enjoying all of your comments about the newest songs, so keep 'em comin'! This was the LIVE debut of this next song in December here in NYC.
For you guys again today... the entire concert..."The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" is here for you to watch. Go make a pot of coffee. Pour yourself some tea or a nice glass of wine and sit back and watch this thing. Plug in some headphones or some earbuds if you feel like it. You can actually jump around and watch different parts o the show.
We had such a great time again this year in that theater!
(The audio got a little funky during Teresa Reynolds' Christmas song... but I'm do everything I can to fix that sooner than later. Check back.)

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
