Hey!

Welcome to the website.

I've gotta say THANK YOU to every single person who showed up for that little work session on Saturday night. For me, it was an complete and total success in that it fulfilled the purpose of the thing.... I learned an awful lot about the flow and direction of the piece. And the stuff that didn't work as well as some other stuff -- well, that's the real reason for the whole thing!

I'll tell you a little more about that in a minute.

FIRST, once again I wanna welcome everyone who's new here. You might wanna take a few minutes to browse the ARCHIVE to see what's been going on around here -- AND take just a minute to look through the photo gallery from last year's outdoor season in both Central Park and at "The Sunset Concert Series" in Hudson River Park.

This creative process is a blast. I'm serious. It's such an amazing thing to be able to put this thing together and be working with such open-hearted and generous artists and creative minds. It's also amazing to have the genuine support of so many good people.

This past Saturday night I did work session #2 in a small theater downtown for about 60 people, who patiently helped me work through the arc of this story. Both of the first two sessions were extremely helpful. I was actually considering posting some video from these sessions. I'm just not sure if that would be a good thing to do. It might be better just to keep it all a little close to the vest for now. Y'know? Not give up the gold.

We'll see.

The most important thing I learned from some of the comments I heard on the way out of the theater the other night... is that this piece has already got something to say. It's got heart. It's got "balls" already and I think it's gonna be a very cool, and a very fun thing. Now, it is not possible for everyone to "get" a message or the feeling an artist wants to get across in a piece of work. And if something like this makes some people uncomfortable... well, that's a very good thing, too. Y'know?

If most people smile, laugh, sing, relate and are comforted by a music theater piece like the kind I want to create, that's a good thing. But if others who live in a specific reality are made to think, or even squirm a little...then I'm definitely doing my job.

If you're new around here... if you just showed up here to find out what all the hoo-ha is about, this is a little 10-minute video explaining the ultimate goal, from Academy Award-winner Tony Walton and his wife.

We're trying to put a theatrical piece together that, hopefully, will be a positive thing.

Get the idea?

A whole bunch of fellow artists and friends have convinced me that after 20 years of being "That Guitar Man from Central Park", it might be time to tell the story in a different way for a much larger audience. Exactly how this thing is going to evolve is way beyond me at this point. Just kinda making it up as I go along.

And here's a link to the IndieGoGo page where we're still trying to raise the money to pull this thing off.

We'll be starting an "outdoor season" in Central Park for the 20th summer in a row in just about a month.

And yes! Last week I sent in the contract with Hudson River Park for this year's "Sunset concert Series" on Pier 45 at in The Village. So yeah, from June until August we'll play the Sun down in the west. Gonna be sweet. I love this town!

THE (entire) DECEMBER CONCERT

For you guys again today... the entire concert... "The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" is here for you to watch. Go make a pot of coffee. Pour yourself some tea or a nice glass of wine and sit back and watch this thing. Plug in some headphones or some earbuds if you feel like it. You can actually jump around and watch different parts o the show.

We had such a great time again this year in that theater!

(The audio got a little funky during Teresa Reynolds' Christmas song... but I'm do everything I can to fix that sooner than later. Check back.)

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
