Well, what d'you know!?

I sat in the jury pool for the second day yesterday, and wound up getting selected to sit on a jury.

I'm cool with that.

So this is what I'm gonna ask you guys to do. ('Cause I might not be around this website for the next few days.) Would you pass the link for this website around to a bunch of people you know? And would you take it upon yourselves to direct at least a few people at this website and this project.

SEND THEM HERE AND ASK THEM TO GET INVOLVED!

ASK THEM TO WATCH THE VIDEO AND JUMP IN!

'Cause I'll be downtown for the next few days at least.

Tell ya... I sat there as the lawyers questioned the potential jurors, and I heard person after person who, in my opinion, answered their questions disingenuously to get out of serving. (Some were so being transparently difficult it was f*cking laughable.) Now, that's their business. I'm not them so I really can't speak with any certainty to their motives. But I'm a New Yorker, so my bullshit meter is pretty fine-tuned. And I was born at night... but not last night.

Here's the thing.

Like I said yesterday, someone told me a long time ago where self esteem comes from. (See yesterday's update.) So like anyone else, while I'm not entirely thrilled to be spending the first few days of this new theatrical project serving in a civil jury trial, I think my subway ride home yesterday felt a whole lot better than a person who wriggled out of it for whatever reason. I can say that I answered their questions honestly and directly. And that feels good. And if the day ever came when I would need a handful of people to sit in judgment over a civil or criminal matter closer to home, I would hope they would be people who are cool with fulfilling the same obligation.

OKAY!!!!!

After 20 years of sharing music and stories in Central Park I'm so, so grateful and jazzed to be right in the middle of something like this!!!! So what d'you say? Feel like creating a Broadway Show?

ARE YOU GONNA BE A PART OF THIS? Are you gonna jump in?
(Or just think it's a really cool and worthwhile project... but just sit on the sidelines.)

Because it feels like the time is right for this to happen! But it ain't gonna happen without YOU and people like you. What am I talkin' about!?

We're gonna fine-tune exactly the kind of fun gigs we do in venues like Merkin Concert Hall and we're gonna do a workshop production of a show we eventually want to move to Broadway! Wouldn't it be cool to feel like a part of something like this? It's a growing circle, friends and artists who are launching this brand new project. Everyone who helps out will be considered an angel, a friend, a "producer", and will be listed in the program. You can be a real part of making this a reality. Got a quick 10-minutes to watch a wonderful little video?

SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?

You are everything. Just like on "The Hill" in Central Park, none of this happens if you don't show up. The 3 most important things we need from you...

1. A generous donation of real money. (Yeah, like everything else... it's gonna take money to actually make it happen.)

2. Your suggestions about what you'd like to see in the show... which songs move you, which make you laugh, which songs and stories you think a Broadway audience will get the most out of and enjoy the most.

3. We need you to take it upon yourself to be a little Paul Revere-ish... take it upon yourself to spread the word about this project every day to friends and family. Make it your own. We need you to come up with Creative ideas to get the word out about this effort.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
