I went ahead and booked 2 nights in a theater on West 44th Street. If you want to be a part of this process, mark 2 nights down on your calendar... the first 2 Saturday nights in April. These shows will be FREE.
Saturday, April 2 -- Saturday, April 9

Each show will start at 7:30
These two evenings are NOT gonna be "the show"... or even the actual workshop. These are part of a very new, very out-of-the-box way of developing a show -- kind of informal "development sessions" -- just a way of testing what flies, what lands and what crashes and burns. A bit different. But... what the hell. This is me we're talkin' about. If you wanna attend one of these sessions, I'll tell you how in a minute. It won't cost you a thing. No money that is. But you DO hafta bring something with you. (This is so cool.)
More about that in a minute.

FIRST -- as I have all week, I want to give you guys an opportunity to send a little help around the other side of the world to Japan in a pretty direct way. I know it gets a little confusing and overwhelming sometimes when you wanna help but so many charities and organizations are encumbered with massive bureaucracies.
I think these men and women are pretty cool and do really great work. When thousands and thousands of ordinary people are hurt and suffering, and this organization has always been one of my favorites to support. Might be a way for you to help if you can or if you wanna.

These physicians always show up all around the world, getting direct help on the ground, right there with their nose in it, helping ordinary people who need real help.
Okay... on with the update.

OKAY!!!!!

Those of you in the arts know what a storyboard is. For everyone else... a storyboard can be a series of sketches, or even just a series of index cards and on them are different songs and scenes and dialogue and moments for a particular play or performance... which can then be arranged and rearranged to see what the thing will look like, how it will flow. The cards are often stuck to a wall or... a storyboard.
I was thinkin'... what if I did a couple of nights in which I took a series of songs and stories from over the years and shared them with a roomful of people, with an audience -- but shot video of both sessions in segments. Then I could take each individual segment of video and arrange them in a time-line in the Final Cut editing program... and rearrange them... and arrange them again, so that I could actually see and hear how they held together. In other words, it would be a living storyboard with music and transitions and everything.
This is where you come in.
If you think it would be fun to be a part of this process, all you have to do is find one friend, one acquaintance, one other person who has never been to one of my concerts at Merkin Concert Hall or The Thalia or anywhere else. If you email me and tell me you'd like to reserve a spot for yourself and your friend, or even a couple of friends, I will put your name on the guest list for one of the nights. BUT... it's important that you or the person with you haven't been to one of my concerts... ever.
I'm very serious. I need to be assured that at least half of the audience each night is coming in cold with NO idea what to expect. (You can see what I'm trying to do and why, right?)
So please... no cheating.
.
NOW -- IF YOU WANT TO PLACE YOUR NAME IN THE GUEST LIST FOR EITHER OF THOSE SATURDAY NIGHT SESSIONS...
HERE's the video from Academy Award-winner Tony Walton and his wife.
We're trying to put a theatrical piece together that, hopefully, will be a positive thing.

SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?
You are everything. Just like on "The Hill" in Central Park, none of this happens if you don't show up. The 3 most important things we need from you...
1. A generous donation of real money. (Yeah, like everything else... it's gonna take money to actually make it happen.)
2. Your suggestions about what you'd like to see in the show... which songs move you, which make you laugh, which songs and stories you think a Broadway audience will get the most out of and enjoy the most.
3. We need you to take it upon yourself to be a little Paul Revere-ish... take it upon yourself to spread the word about this project every day to friends and family. Make it your own. We need you to come up with Creative ideas to get the word out about this effort.

For you guys again today... the entire concert..."The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" is here for you to watch. Go make a pot of coffee. Pour yourself some tea or a nice glass of wine and sit back and watch this thing. Plug in some headphones or some earbuds if you feel like it. You can actually jump around and watch different parts o the show.
We had such a great time again this year in that theater!
(The audio got a little funky during Teresa Reynolds' Christmas song... but I'm do everything I can to fix that sooner than later. Check back.)

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
