Oh man! I promise. I'm gonna get off this soon!

I have work to do! I have a script to write! I have a group of wonderful, good-hearted, funny, talented and generous artists to assemble for another night of music an laughs.

But I can't let this slide completely.... not just yet.

Because every time I think I can, I hear something else from Glenn Beck or Sarah Palin and my common sense and my sense of basic human decency kick overriding my feelings of revulsion.

Listen, I'm a New Yorker. Maybe that's it. Maybe we just have a nose for sniffing out phonies. And like I always say, "I was born at night... but not last night!"

I'm hearing people in media, both Liberal and Conservative, both mainstream and fringe, say that Jared Loughner was a psycho, plain and simple. Vitriolic political rhetoric had no effect on this man's mind. They shout that the political climate and the language ginned up by the Right Wing in this country had no effect. They insist that accusations by Glenn Beck that "progressive-thinking" people in this nation are sliding this nation toward tyranny as well as the enslavement of the American people, and the gun-brandishing images of Palin and her suggestions that citizens shouldn't "retreat" but rather "re-load" have no bearing on a young, deranged man like Loughner. They declare that there was nothing "political" about his actions... only insane.

I have a couple of really, really simple questions.

Why didn't he walk into a Walmart and shoot the manager? Why didn't he walk into a law firm and shoot one of the partners? Why didn't he walk into a Catholic church and shoot a priest?

He went to a political event. He waited in line to get close to a "congresswoman" from the Democratic Party. And then he opened fire to assassinate (his word) a "politician" at a "political" event.

.

Nothing "political" about his actions. "Politics" had nothing to do with this tragedy. Totally irrelevant.

.

.

Again -- just please... get real. Gimme a f*cking break.

.

.

.

OKAY!!!! Back to the music!

Tough week!

.

Denying this part of my job goes against my grain. As someone who knows me and loves me said the other day, speaking out and singing out with social conscience is not only what I do... she said, "David it IS you."

I've been writing on this site... overtime this week.

Monday's update

Tuesday's update

And I'm sure there will be more.

I watched Glenn Beck again last night. (Again, it's one of the more difficult and distasteful parts of my job.) I'm convinced there needs to be Reason, Love and sanity put into this Universe by as many of us as possible in whatever ways we can to counter the insanity flowing from people like that.

But right now I hafta get back to creating the next project. And I hafta pick the date to produce the next concert event to which you will all be invited. AND it's gonna be something different a and very, very cool I hope.

In the meantime... I know a lot of you stop by here every day from different parts of the country and different parts of the world. Chances are most of you hung out with me at least once here in New York City and this website is a way to keep you a little bit closer to The Big Apple all year.

The little kid in me still loves the snow in this town!

For you guys again today... the entire concert... "The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" is here for you to watch. Go make a pot of coffee. Pour yourself some tea or a nice glass of wine and sit back and watch this thing. Plug in some headphones or some earbuds if you feel like it. You can actually jump around and watch different parts o the show.

We had such a great time again this year in that theater!

(The audio got a little funky during Teresa Reynolds' Christmas song... but I'm do everything I can to fix that sooner than later. Check back.)

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
