I HAVE ANOTHER BRAND NEW FUN VIDEO FOR YOU HERE TODAY!!!
.
But -- one quick follow-up thought to Monday's Update about the shooting in Arizona over the weekend. We'll call this section...
I'm Just Sayin'
DO ME A FAVOR. IF YOU FEEL LIKE IT, PLEASE PASS THE URL FOR THIS SITE ONTO SOME OF YOUR MORE THOUGHTFUL FRIENDS, OKAY? Ask them how they feel about the updates of the past 2 days.
Listen, I'm an American singer/songwriter. I place the fact that I'm an American citizen pretty far down on the list of ways that I identify myself as a human being, but I respect and understand the Constitution of the United States. It is a brilliant, living document and has been evolving since it was written. And I understand the basis for the Second Amendment. That's not at issue here with me today.
But Jared Loughner... a clearly, clearly unbalanced young person who wrote things like:
"The majority of citizens in the united states of America [sic] have never read the United States of America's constitution. You don't have to accept the federalist laws. In conclusion, reading the second United States constitution, I can't trust the current government because of the ratifications: the government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar. No! I won't pay debt with a currency that's not backed by gold and silver! No!"
.
Jared Loughner!? This f*cking nutcase!? A classmate at community college, Lynda Sorensen, 52, was studying algebra in a bid to get back into the job market. She wrote the following emails:
June 1, the first day of class: "One day down and nineteen to go. We do have one student in the class who was disruptive today, I'm not certain yet if he was on drugs (as one person surmised) or disturbed. He scares me a bit. The teacher tried to throw him out and he refused to go, so I talked to the teacher afterward. Hopefully he will be out of class very soon, and not come back with an automatic weapon."
June 10: "As for me, Thursday means the end to week two of algebra class. It seems to be going by quickly, but then I do have three weeks to go so we'll see how I feel by then. Class isn't dull as we have a seriously disturbed student in the class, and they are trying to figure out how to get rid of him before he does something bad, but on the other hand, until he does something bad, you can't do anything about him. Needless to say, I sit by the door."
June 14: "We have a mentally unstable person in the class that scares the living cr** out of me. He is one of those whose picture you see on the news, after he has come into class with an automatic weapon. Everyone interviewed would say, Yeah, he was in my math class and he was really weird. I sit by the door with my purse handy. If you see it on the news one night, know that I got out fast..."
.
Okay, now...
The manager of the store in Tucson... SPORTSMAN'S WAREHOUSE... (Where any "sportsman" can walk in and buy a Glock 9mm hand gun to hunt... polar bear, I suppose.) ... the manager, Reese Widmer, said that Loughner passed the "instant" background check with no problem. Who's kidding who, Reese! Gimme a fucking break! Either the "check" is pathetic and lacking or you guys are... one or the other... maybe both.
Sportsman's Warehouse
I'm not the brightest man in the world. But if a dangerous, unbalanced, scary young man like Loughner can walk into a store and buy an instrument of death, a device manufactured with NO other purpose but to kill another human being, then there is something drastically wrong with the way a majority of Americans think about gun laws in this country. It's just so obviously wrong -- so obviously indefensible on every level.
Sure... almost ANYONE can drive a car. And even people who think Jesus is coming on May 21 of this year are allowed to vote! But it seems to me that the screening to purchase a gun should be at least as tough as applying for a job at Google!
Now... last night Glenn Beck was in over-drive -- saying in one breath that he wasn't going to be defensive about the fact of his inflammatory rhetoric, and in the next breath defending it until he was red-in-the-face. In the next segment he said that he was appalled at those who might make this tragedy a political issue, and before the next commercial break was railing against "progressive liberals" as plotting to take down our entire system of government by attacking the likes of him and the network who pays him.
The man is a hypocritical blowhard with the integrity of a... of a... (actually can't think of anyone to insult that badly.)
But today, politicians on both sides of the aisle will have meaningless "moments of silence" as the people of Tuscon hold their obligatory "candlelight vigils". The silly talking-heads on every network from NBC to FOX will speak poetically in somber tones over carefully scored musical montages.
But the bottom line for me is this -- You can take the last phrase in the National Anthem... "...and the home of the brave" ...and flush it down the toilet if there are 90 guns for every 100 people in this country.
And there are.
.
I'm just sayin'.
.
Oh wait! Before we move on I have to share this with you!!!! I obtained a copy of the "Background Check" a person has to fill out to but a handgun in the great state of Arizona. You might find it enlightening.
Click to view the FBI form. (Your copy to print out.)
Maybe I'll post some of your comments on this site later in the week.
Okay... moving on.

I've got to get back to work. (But I hope it makes someone smile today.)
I'm going to check out some dates for the first concert of the new year. But I think I can tell you right now that it won't be your typical gig. I'm hoping to make it a kind of run-through of new musical project I'm putting together.
Yeah, the usual suspects will all be a part of it if they want to be. George Wurzbach, Nelson Montana, Ryan Cavan, Dave Marcus, Chris Tedesco and Teresa Reynolds (The CSD Band) will all share the stage if everything works out the way I envision it. So, keep checking back and I'll have more to tell you soon, I hope.
In the meantime, you can keep checking in here every day and start browsing through the ARCHIVE if you're looking for fun stuff to do!
AND HERE ARE THE MOST RECENT VIDEOS FROM THE CONCERT A FEW WEEKS AGO!
And if you'd like to leave your comments directly on the YouTube page for everyone to read and to get the conversation going around the world, this is the link! It's also the link you can copy and send to your friends... or just tell them to visit this site!

THE CONCERT
For you guys again today... the entire concert..."The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" is here for you to watch. Go make a pot of coffee. Pour yourself some tea or a nice glass of wine and sit back and watch this thing. Plug in some headphones or some earbuds if you feel like it. You can actually jump around and watch different parts o the show.
We had such a great time again this year in that theater!
(The audio got a little funky during Teresa Reynolds' Christmas song... but I'm do everything I can to fix that sooner than later. Check back.)

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
