Had a great time with the guys at our first rehearsal yesterday. But I also really wonderful and unexpectedly moving and inspiring experience in the studio. Can't exactly put it into words today. But late last night, I had a moment of clarity as the direct result of something that happened during the session. We'll see how it affects my work... and my Life.
"The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" is less than 3 weeks away!
What a great year I had with all of you out on Central Park in 2010. Can't wait to hang with you indoors in a few weeks.

Got a favor to ask of any of you who already have tickets to the gig on December 11th.(Further down the page.)
But first!!!!
Welcome to all of you checking in here from different parts of the world. Here in New York city as in the rest of The States, we're into another Thanksgiving Week.
I love this time of year. I'm about the least religious person you will EVER meet... but I love that Thanksgiving kicks off a wonderfully FUN season. For a man who spends most of his days in a state of nearly constant wonder and Gratitude, it's one of my very favorite holidays. And this whole week actually feels very cool to me. Short work-week for most of you. Then tomorrow is "get-outta-town-day" for a lot of you here in NYC. For those of you who are flying to family and friends, Wednesday might also be called "getting-a-little-something-extra" or "getting-intimate-with-total-strangers" day.
(I'll tell you... I've been single so long now I might just go hang out at the airport and ask to go through screening and a few times.)
But then... on Thursday I'll head out to my sister Susan's house on Long Island. She is one of the sweetest, genuinely best people I've ever met. (She just happens to be one of my 4 wonderful sisters.) And on Thanksgiving her home... smells and feels like Thanksgiving to me. Y'know?
Her husband, my brother-in-law Mike, is a New York City firefighter and one of the nicest guys I've ever known as well... but he also happens to make the most kick-ass pumpkin and apple pies. Gonna be a very sweet, very warm day. It always is.
So many wonderful traditions in this town this week.
The parade. The food. The football. It's officially "okay" to play Christmas music. The movies like "It's a Wonderful Life" and the classics like "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer". And of course I'm hoping they air this classic, which I starred in in another Life.

(Okay. Even for Photoshop, that's just disturbing!)
.
But I'll have a sweet Thanksgiving update tomorrow and Thursday, so check back if you're not too crazy-busy with travel and stuff!

Oh, oh, oh... okay... the favor.
(And I'm really asking this sincerely.)
THE FAVOR
I know that many of you reading this right now KNOW that you're coming to the concert in 3 weeks. In fact I'd be willing to guess that many of you have already bought your tickets. Here's the favor...
This week or this weekend... would you try to talk at least one more person into coming to this show? Y'see, the energy from year to year is always so different when there are people in the room experiencing that "It's Just Us" feeling for the very first time. (I know you know what I'm talking about!) I'm asking this now because there are still really good seats left in both the orchestra and the balcony. But that might nor be true in 2 weeks.
So think about one or two people who you think would really get a kick out of this gig and make it a project to convince them that they won't be sorry. (You and I both know that they'll have a GREAT time.) But tell them to grab tickets in the next week or so.
I already can't wait! After running some of the new songs with the guys yesterday.... I can tell you it's gonna be a LOT of fun this year.

Um, one more time -- HERE ARE THOSE GALLERIES I was talkin' about. Let's take a look back at this year's "outdoor" season. ' Cause when we fill Merkin Concert Hall and fill it with music and that "It's Just Us" feeling, you can look around and see a lot of the same smiling faces you see around you all summer in Central Park. Here's a photo galleries from this season. This one exists largely because of the enthusiasm and camera work of publicist Laura Manske and others who send in photos. The 2010 gallery will continue to grow as we finish out the year "indoors".
(No matter where in the world you're reading this, if you've ever hung out with me you might find your smiling face in one of the galleries!!!)

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
