There is no place I'd rather be today than at "The Hill" in Central Park with all of you.

But here at the website, I will just share a few thoughts about this day. And further down the page I will let you guys know where I'll be today and what I'll be doing and why.

But first, to answer so many emails from so many beautiful people... the answer is no.

I won't be in Central Park today. But it has nothing to do with the significance of the day. Yes, I would like to be sharing my day with all of you. But The Parks Department didn't give us the Special Events Permit I applied for on this date.

So, I'll see you guys next Saturday -- weather permitting.

I'll be back here tomorrow and all week with photos and video from both last night's beautiful "Candlelight Vigil" and our experiences today downtown.

.

Anniversaries are a strange phenomenon if you ask me.

I guess as human beings, both silly and magnificent creatures that we are, we tend to think that somehow we are back in the same place "time-wise" in some kind of circle or cycle. Or maybe we believe that the planet is somehow occupying the same space in the cosmos that it was a year ago... or 9 years ago in 2001... when both of those ideas are complete illusions. We are physically billions and billions, probably trillions of miles and more away from where we were... our planet, solar system and galaxy are all hurtling through the infinity of space at speeds we cannot even fathom.

And today... is "now".

Sure it's a day we artificially call Saturday, September 11, 2010. But, even that's an arbitrary way of making sense of eternity... the perpetual and eternal single instant... THIS MOMENT.

Still, it's a time to remember.

And while we remember the tragedy and the darkness of that day in September 9 years ago, it's healing for me to recall how here in New York City where we felt the heartbreak more palpably than almost any other place on the planet, many of us found a way to come together.... where we needed to be.... on "The Hill" in Central Park.

These are photos that people sent in to the website. This was our first time together that following weekend, just 5 days later... September 16, 2001.

AND SO... TODAY.

I'm going to try to peacefully make even a tiny difference for the better in that embarrassingly unAmerican display of intolerance , anger and small-mindedness downtown near Cordoba House on Park Place.

Just a couple of weeks ago I sat quietly and wrote a new song.

In the last 2 days I've had hundreds of copies of it produced and, with the help of Teresa Reynolds, Laura Manske and a few good, good friends I'm going to give them out for free to the protesters. Maybe if someone hands them a free CD and when they get home they actually go to Youtube and watch the video... maybe... maybe just one or two people might open their eyes and soften their angry hearts.

Maybe not.

Y'know, Billy Joel sang "we didn't start the fire."

But I guess most of you have seen that egotistical wingnut of a snake oil salesmen who calls himself a "Christian" pastor down in Florida, Terry Jones, starting a fire with more stupidity, hatred and anger. And I guess you've been watching self-serving, right-wing opportunists like Sarah Palin and Congressman John Boehner stoking the fire and fanning the flames for their own selfish reasons.

Well, I'm gonna see if music might help douse the fire just a little bit in my own way.

I understand the human tendency to want to "fight fire with fire". But in my experience... that just makes more f*ckin' fire.

.

Look, I wrote the song and made the video for a Reason. If you are one of those people who sent negative email about my efforts, I want to post these words written by the man behind the Cordoba House.

READ THESE WORDS SO THAT YOU MIGHT BETTER UNDERSTAND

So here it is... the newest song that's makin' the rounds on the internet. It's about the national disgrace and embarrassment to all thoughtful people everywhere that's happening downtown in my own hometown. You might wanna check out my original thoughts on the subject by hitting this link. I received an awful lot of email in response to both updates. Most of the people who dig my music are people who just "get it".

But the written word didn't seem enough for me as an artist. So recently, I buried myself "in the cave" and wrote a new song.

You can watch it by clicking on this image.

Listen, if you're NEW around here, there are lots of FUN videos, lots of FREE songs to download... and that's another reason to browse The Archive.

Like I said, there are also some fun videos making their way around the country and around the world. Here's one about the upcoming final installments of the Harry Potter series of movies. It's a song about the character, Hermione Granger.

Now, that other song about "Facebook... Idiot" is still rocketing around the world. As of today, almost a quarter of a million people all around the planet are passing it around. (Must struck a chord inside a few people.)

If you haven't seen it yet...

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
