I tell you, after Tuesday's update... I can tell you that it's good feeling to know that I can also learn from the attitudes and reactions of others. It's important for me to recognize those dark characteristics in myself when I get angry. I hope to be a better man. It's just about Awareness and Growth. I hope I never stop questioning and growing.
I have to seek to understand rather than be understood.
Because sometimes I get sucked into a pointless debate that is irrelevant and unproductive. And because some people will never understand... their fear and anger is so, so subtle... but so, so powerful.
BUT KNOW THIS... in the next few days I will post as many of the positive, supportive, and affirming emails I've received from so many dozens and dozens of people who actually "get it".
There are way too many to post all of them. So, I'll try to give you a really good sample. 9 out of 10 people in my audience "get it".
Welcome to the website! Everyone in different parts of the country and different parts of the the world.

And here in New York City... I'm so pumped to put a guitar on my shoulder and head to Central Park again this coming Saturday. It's Labor Day Weekend, so if you're one of those people who likes to stay in town on a long holiday weekend and really, really kick back and relax... I hope i see you out at "The Hill". I have a little tradition on holiday weekends that is just a kick, and you can be a part of it!
Seriously. If you're gonna be in New York City this weekend, plan on coming out to Central Park to hang with me. We're still goin' strong out there at this time of year... laughin' and singin' and sharing really good, good times in the middle of the most remarkable city on earth.

Moving on.
Now generally, this site is about Life, and Love, and Laughter and above all... music.
But last week I wrote 2 updates that address this genuinely embarrassing circumstance about that cultural center which is planned to be built in downtown Manhattan. I had a lunch meeting with a brilliant songwriter and good friend of mine named George Wurzbach, and as we were discussing the matter, I was using words like "insane" and "fear-driven" and "narrow-minded" and "shallow". But he used the word "embarrassing" and he's right. As an American citizen and as a sentient human being.... the opposition to the that cultural center being built on Park Place is... embarrassing.
You might wanna check out my original thoughts by hitting this link. I received an awful lot of email in response to both updates. Most of the people who dig my music are people who just "get it".
But the written word didn't seem enough for me as an artist. So in the last couple of days, I buried myself "in the cave" and wrote a new song.

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
