We had a pretty cool day out in Central Park yesterday, too. Even though the weather was threatening most of the day, I put my guitar on my back and headed out there. Played my usual 5+ hour set and hung out with a whole bunch of really great people.
BUT... I was completely wiped out, physically by the end of the 2-day gig run that I do most weekends in the Summer. So I slept later in this Sunday morning than I usually do.
Now, I understand that many of you are not baseball fans. Hell, a lot of you live in different part of the world or in different parts of this country and so you're probably not Yankee fans. But if you've been coming here for any length of time, you know that I love baseball and heading up to The Stadium whenever I can.
I have for most of my Life.
I was taken to my very first Major League baseball game when I was a little boy by the man I call "Pop". (Because he's my father.) When I was in high school I headed up to The Bronx as often as I could with the boys... Pete, and The Breeze, and Danny, and The Bishop, and Stan, and Bobby. My first girlfriends could always count on being my date in the stands... usually in the cheap seats. So many memories.
I have so many memories of sharing fun summer afternoons and thrilling summer nights at Yankee Stadium with the woman I love.
Baseball and The Yankees are certainly in "The Toy Department of Life", but they're just such a wonderful part of my life.
Today... the voice of those memories, one of the consistent echoes of my past, a comforting sound from my youth and a big part of the tradition of The Yankees and Yankee Stadium died.
Here's a small tribute.
"Now batting -- behind the microphone -- the #1 announcer -- Bob... Sheppard -- #1"

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
