And the concert is TWO WEEKS from tonight!!!! We're getting together in a really great little theater on Broadway @ 95th Street called The Leonard Nimoy Thalia for another night of music and laughs.
I'm also gonna have a kind of a special comment today, might make you laugh. Might make you angry. Just makes me smile and shake my head and keep going.
At the upcoming concert, I've got a brand new songs that I'm gonna play with George, Teresa, Nelson, Ryan and Chris. This oughta be really cool.
We're gonna have a blast on the 30th!
I mean... click on this image for a few memories
from the gig at Merkin Concert Hall last December.
Now, I know there are so many of you who live in different parts of the country and different parts of the world. We're gonna stream this concert LIVE so that you can be a part of it, too! (I'll let you know if this is gonna be the first interactive show in which you'll be able to request songs from wherever in the world you are!!! Who knows? Maybe James, the Evil Genius, will be able to figure that out for this gig!)

But with as much fun as we have around here, you know how I feel about music's place in this world.
And you also know how important I feel it is to "pay attention". Some of you wonder why I rail against the closed-minded, Spiritually-bankrupt "right wing" of this country. Here's just another example that I usually keep to myself.
I don't share this ind of thing with you much because.... ah, what's the point. We've got better things to do. But today, I just said, What the hell."
Over the years, Ive received hundreds of nasty emails. I've gotten little threats which were left in my guitar case in Central Park. Back when we had a message board on this website, it gradually became an incubator for right-wing weirdness. (We pulled that thing down because the people who show up here and at my gigs are beautiful, reasonable, open-minded, good-hearted people who love music, seek Truth, celebrate Love and just wanna know that we're all not alone.... and the message board seemed like an unnecessary forum for genuine crap.)
But today...
I wanna share a phone message I received from somebody who.... Ha! Obviously sees the world in a very different way than I do.
But, I've responded to critics and with people who disagree with me about things. There are a few people who, even though we live in very different realities, can remain civil and decent.
I don't sweat stuff like this pone call. I really don't. It mostly kind of amuses me. But I guess if I didn't inspire crap like this I wouldn't be doing my job.
Here, give it a listen... and then I'll make the point.
When I personally write to a member of Congress, when I respond to an angry email, when I have something to say.... I always sign the letter.
If you look at the top of this page it reads "DAVID IPPOLITO".
There is a link to contact me with an email, a phone number to reach me.
Nearly EVERY single time, with VERY few exceptions.... when the angriest of these Tea-Party types leave this stuff... they don't sign their emails.
They are blowhards. They are cowards.
This phone message came in and the return phone number of this tough, smart, righteous man is, of course...
unavaialble.

Typical.

(Oh. Ha! For the record... I work very, very hard. I just happen to LOVE what I do for a living. I consider myself one of the luckiest men alive. I have a job.... and this is part of it. I write songs, Create things, produce concerts, record albums, update websites, and try to add a little something to this world every single day. I'm not on "welfare" and have never been, although if I ever needed to be, that's why it's there and there's no shame in it. I pay taxes because it's a civic duty, and complain about once in a while because it's sometimes justified and it's my right. I'm not a bum. I try to be Good man and when I look in the mirror I kinda like the guy.)
And MY phone number is listed at the top of the page.
OKAY! Back to the fun stuff.
NOW!!!!!!!
Here's a FREE song!
Keep smiling. KEEP HOPE ALIVE. Keep being cool to each other. But, more importantly... make today count.

If you're new around here you might wanna start with this little gallery of photos from last summer which were shot my Laura Manske and others that lots of people have sent in to the website.
As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
