It's good to be alive and to be able to feel real feeling... sometimes several all at the same time.
Yesterday, I went with a good friend up to Yankee Stadium for "Opening Day". Very cool. Took the D train up to the Bronx. Got off the train with thousands of baseball fans. Herded through the subway tunnel and up the stairs. Crossed 161st Street to the Stadium, turned my head to the left and... and an emotion hit me like a punch in the stomach.
Just an emotional ambush.
Where once stood a cathedral to baseball and tradition, a mainstay of my youth, a home for a thousand memories.... a piece of my life... there was a pile of rubble and gray sky.
It was a patch of sky no one had seen from that angle in nearly a century. I had never seen it in my lifetime. There was no stadium there.
I was suddenly in tears. Good tears. Bittersweet tears. "It's-okay-tears". But... real and heartfelt tears.
.
The memories of all the wonderful people with whom I've shared summer afternoons and autumn nights in the old Yankees Stadium, all the really amazing and not-so-amazing moments I'd share inside that building... all came flooding back all at once. It was a powerful momemnt for me.
And then...

.
The Yankees beat the Angels in the home opener.
Ah, life.
Okay. NOW!
We're gonna make some more memories in about 2 weeks!

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
