(But, more about the concert way further down the page.)
All of you checking in here from different parts of the country and from different parts of the world should know... New York in the snow is a magic and romantic and storybook place. It just works better before and around holiday time.
Right now... it's just helping to make the winter feel lllooonnnnnnggg.
.
But, that's not what today's update is about.
.
TODAY, at the bottom of the page you'll find more about the concert in 5 days, as well as 2 ways for you to get tickets right now.
But today's update will also be another attempt to explain what I mean when I say, "I feel like the luckiest man alive." (I truly hope we all feel that way most of the time.)
Let's just start with the fact that I'm comfortable knowing who I am as a man, and when I'm in a room by myself a actually like the company. (I wouldn't have been able to say that years ago.) I'm comfortable "not knowing the unknowable" and try to always be open to learn how wrong I can be about something in Life. And now I'm doing what I love -- doing what I know I'm meant to do. I write songs and I sing them for people. I'm a storyteller right to my core, and I've been lucky enough to find a way that people actually listen and get something out it. I'm usually in a state of constant gratitude and wonder about that.
But, I also get to do it in the middle of New York City -- Florence during the Renaissance, the crossroads of human civilization, the capitol of the world. My little backyard is Central Park and every year I get to hang out with people from all 50 states and more countries than I can name.
Now, I'm working (with friends like Kara of G.I.G., "evil-genius James Marino" and Laura Manske, my "Chief of Stuff") toward taking this whole thing to a much wider audience. I'm suddenly so inspired and jazzed again, so pumped with hope, so filled with piss & vinegar about what I'm meant to be doing.
I have all of you to thank.
Since posting "The Last Protest Song", I have received so many emails and messages of support I can put into words how gratified I am. But, in the past week I also received several really negative and mean-spirited emails which may have actually inspired me even more than the others.
And so I must sincerely thank everyone who took time to write.
Hey, you guys know that we laugh around here much more than we don't. And you all know how much all of this centers around music. And, you also know how passionately I feel about things, as evidenced by this update and my latest work-in-progress.
Well, Laura Manske secured a couple of press passes to attend a couple of wonderful conferences this past week. Both of the sessions we attended featured a man I regard as a man of Reason who has extensive knowledge of Constitutional law, Mr. Glenn Greenwald.
I had the opportunity to ask Glenn a couple of questions during the day, and his response to my second question gave me a little bit more than a sense of "hope". I mean, I'm an unapologetic "possibility-junkie" so I guess even on the darkest days I've always got a glimmer of hope. But more than that, Glenn's thoughts on Thursday renewed my sense of "purpose".
I'm glad I met the man.
I also had the opportunity to hear and speak with a man who've I've long considered a genuine American hero -- a man who at one time Henry Kissinger called "The Most Dangerous Man in America" because he acted on conscience and revealed that the men who occupied the Oval Office during the Viet Nam years were undeniably lying to the American people.

It was sooooo cool to spend a day re-charging my batteries and being among The good Guys... people of Reason and fellow Truth Seekers.
Mr. Daniel Ellsberg
Now, during our little lunch break in the middle of all of this, I thought we'd head uptown and hang for a little bit with a man who's become such a close friend and who will be at my concert this coming week, the man who brought The Beatles to America and changed music history and world history in so many other ways.... Sid Bernstein.
.
I mean....
What a damned, amazing day!!!!
I'm a lucky, lucky man.
Okay now, about the concert.
Yes, Sid will be there. Make sure YOU don't get sold out. Get one more little thing off your mind and grab your tickets today.
Why don't you take a couple of minutes today to call a friend or a few here in town to see if they're free to come to the concert next Thursday night! THEN... today, later this morning as we dig out from the snow, or later this afternoon and evening when you're NOT thinking about truckin' through it, why don't you go ahead and order your tickets to make sure you've got 'em. I mean it. Make today the day you get your tickets.
(There are only 154 seats in this beautiful little venue.)
I have a feeling you're gonna wanna be in the Leonard Nimoy Thalia theater next Thursday night.
.
This is gonna be something very different and pretty special... I think. I've got a really good feeling about this. So, you're thinkin' you got nothin' else goin' on that night, you're gonna be in town and you wanna get tickets.
You can get them online right now by clicking on this banner:
Or, you can call the box office directly:

We're gonna break up this winter 5 days!!!!
THURSDAY NIGHT MARCH 4th!!!!!
7:30 at THE LEONARD NIMOY THALIA (Broadway at 95th Street)
This is a very cool, very intimate theater space. It's perfect for the kind of evening I've got in mind. If you were at "The Something'th Annual Year End Concert" you already know how good these things feel. But, that was at the 500-seat Merkin Concert Hall! This cool little venue only has 154 seats. So, this is really gonna feel like "It's Just Us"
Just make sure you don't get sold outta this one.
I'm gonna be sharing something with you guys that might be a future project... something entirely new... something brand new. I mean... brand spanking new! (Pardon the kink.)
After the weekend, I'll give you an update and let you know how many seats are left, okay?
OH AND... I'm gonna talk to James Marino about streaming the event live. But, I might decide against that because I'm planning to unveil an idea for an artistic endeavor and I'm not completely sure I want it made public on the internet quite yet. We'll see how it goes. If you're one of the many people checking in here from across the country or a different part of the world, we might stream the gig LIVE. We might not.
Check back!
Um... if you're brand new around here, if a friend just turned you onto this site and you have NO idea what this is all about... it's kind of tough to explain. Except that most of what I do begins with music. Here are a few recent songs to just give you a vague idea about how much fun we have around here.
Download 'em for FREE. (They're from the latest album.)
If you're new around here, you might wanna start wit this little gallery of photos from last summer which were shot my Laura Manske and others that lots of people have sent in to the website.
As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
