Make a cup of coffee, sit back and really check this out today, okay?
Also... please scroll to the bottom of the page to help the people who are suffering so terribly in Haiti, okay? I also have an idea to help make a difference in this country in the long-view too.
I'VE GOT ONE QUESTION FOR ALL OF YOU TODAY, AND A FOLLOW-UP QUESTION TOMORROW!!!
Seriously, I want YOU to be a part of something really cool... another really powerful idea, a wonderful "possibility". (Yeah, yes in 2010 this particular "possibility-junkie" is not slowing down.)
But first... I'm gonna make to songs available as FREE downloads for anyone who's new around here.
Okay guys. You know that as an artist I'm based in New York City. (I mean, yeah.... I'm "That Guitar Man from Central Park")
.
.
.
I have a question today for ALL of you... not just those of you who live here in New York City. This question is for everybody across the country and around the world as well.
You all know how passionately I love music and sharing it with all of you. You also know that I feel very strongly about many things... and I recognize that part of my job description as an artist and as an American singer/songwriter is to write songs that "comfort the disturbed.... and disturb the comfortable".
I write songs about Love and our commonality. But, I also write songs to shine a light on the things we all just get wrong in this lifetime - - and ti shine a light on harmful, vacant people like the Rush Limbaughs and Glenn Becks of this world as well as the shallow-minded, fear-driven lightweights like Sarah Palin and Sean Hannity.
Now...
I've been doing this for about a million years. (Not really... only the past 18 years.) But still, that's an entire generation of New Yorkers. Not only New Yorkers, but I've played my songs and shared my thoughts and feelings with hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people from all across the country and around the world. That's one of the really amazing possibilities when your little hometown happens to be New York City and your outdoor venue happens to be Central Park.
Here in town, we just shared another amazing evening of music and laughs and tears and questions and music and wonder and silliness and Love at "The Something'th annual Year-End Concert" in a packed Merkin Concert Hall. (If you were there, you know what kind of a great time it was! Thanks again!)
Here's a brief clip form part of something kinda fun from the last concert!!!
BTW... email me if you think you have an answer to the Dorothy question.
But, besides the fun we also have things to say.
Like this...
Now...
Doncha think it would be really cool if we could find a way to do this kind of thing once a week? But, I'm thinkin' it would be cool if it wasn't only for those of you who can get to a venue here in Manhattan, but have a way to share it LIVE and interactively with an audience in all 5 boroughs, across the country and around the world?
Here's the first question.
How many of you are familiar with WNYC?.
Click on this logo and check out the simulcasts... the video and radio shows that went out simultaneously. (Tori Amos, Michael Moore, Roseanne Cash.)
Then come back tomorrow and I'll fill you in on what I'm thinking.

.
And of course, we're going to continue with something for any of you who haven't been here in the last few days. I wanna thank every single one of you who showed up for the updates over the last week. But to close today's update, I'm gonna post the same contact information, okay?
.
Please take a moment to send whatever kind of help you can to the people of Haiti.
Me personally.... I truly LOVE the work done by these good, good people in this very well-run and beautiful organization. I support this particular group when I can.

I looked at the stats and realized that an awful lot of you are passing these links around the net to friends. From the bottom of my heart.... Thank You.

See you back here tomorrow.

Closed for 2009! See you in 2010!
David is available for private parties and events. Please call 646-224-8162 for fees and availability.
As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
