HEY!!!

Welcome to the website.

HEY PEOPLE... HAVE YOU HEARD THE OUTCRY!!!!

I'll tell you all about it in a minute.

I know a lot of you are checking in here from around New York City, across this country and in different parts of the the world.

That's one of the reasons I'm thinking about ways to do a weekly simulcast to share the music, laughs and the whole "Guitar Man from Central Park" thing with all of you on a regular basis.

TODAY... got a big story I need to share with all of you here at the site.

Before I get into that, if you're new around here you might wanna check out this little photo gallery from last summer in Central Park... give you an idea of the good times we have around here.

Listen - if you feel strongly about this update, please pass the link for this site on to at least 10 other people.

Okay!

In the last 48 hours, I wonder how you're all reacting to the outcry of protest and shock from this country's "Christian" leaders. It's deafening isn't it? I have never heard so many "Christians" speaking out about one issue that is this outrageous, offensive and fraught with hypocrisy.

Turns out, after all the talk and all the denials about the United States waging a "holy war" or a crusade against Islam? And after the Founding Fathers of this country went through all that bother to create a nation built on Reason and the common goodness of humankind, free from the oppressive ignorance of any one religion?

Funny thing.

Our Defense Department is supplying our military with weapons designed to kill people with... Christian Bible verses embossed on them.

No shit.

.
Here's one with that ol' favorite JOHN 8:12 - "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world:
he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.... just before I blow his ass away."

.

Second Corinthians 4:6 - For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness...
give us the light of the knowledge in the face of Christ... then shoot him in the face."

Now... in 21st century America, it doesn't surprise me that the obvious irony and hypocrisy of putting Biblical quotes about the Prince of Peace on weaponry is lost on about half the population on this country. (With flags flying and crosses raised we have been marching backward for years now.) And, I'm becoming more and more convinced that we live in a very fear-driven and happily unthinking nation.

What gratifies me is the passionate response that "real" Christians and their leaders are voicing!!!

Cardinal I. Doaneckzist has been all over the cable news shows denouncing the use of bible verses on rifle scopes.

Cardinal I. Doaneckzist

Pat Robertson, that great Christian who said that Haiti's poorly constructed, earthquake-vulnerable buildings were a direct result of that nation's deal with the devil back in the 19th century... (He knows. He was there.) ... has been speaking out vehemently against the Biblical rifle scopes. He is scheduled to appear in protest tonight on Hannity's America if he can persuade his nurses to give him a lift to the studio.

Robertson trying to remember if he took his meds.

Other self-proclaimed "Christians" in the media have been speaking out. (Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, and televangelist Brit Hume have all spoken out in protest.) But besides the clamor of all the Christian conservative FOX "News" commentators raising their voices in outrage that references to their saviour are being used on instruments designed specifically to kill other human beings, other members of the Catholic hierarchy are protesting loudly.

Although, Cardinal Albert Pujols was seen asking God, "Why are people asking me about this!?"

Pujols... just confused.

.

.

.

.

.

Okay... truthfully.

.

.

.

.

Haven't heard ONE "Christian" leader comment on this.

.

.

.

Disgraceful.

.

I'm working on a new song. It's tentatively called "The Last Protest Song".

.

'Cause I'm about to give up. This country deserves the government it gets. This country deserves to march backward into the Dark Ages of religion, superstition, fear and ignorance. I hope I get a second wind. I hope the wind of Reason and passion fills my sails again soon.

I had such hope.

Maybe it will come back.

Here... here's are a couple of songs for you to download for free.

THE RELIGION SONG

KEEP HOPE ALIVE

And, a classic from a few years back.

JESUSLAND

.

The O'Reillys and the Becks, the Hannitys and the Robertsons are free to say whatever they think and feel. But WHEN are the voices of Reason and Goodness and Kindness and Faith and Courage and Compassion and Tolerance going to to become loud enough to drown them out?

If you're new around here are the links for the 2 brand new galleries.

.

Thanks for everything.

Be nice to each other today.

AND... of course, we're going to continue with something for any of you who haven't been here in the last few days. I wanna thank every single one of you who showed up for the updates over the last week. But to close today's update, I'm gonna post the same contact information, okay?

.

Please take a moment to send whatever kind of help you can to the people of Haiti.

Me personally.... I truly LOVE the work done by these good, good people in this very well-run and beautiful organization. I support this particular group when I can.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
