Well kids! I know there are a lot of you checking in here from New York City, from different parts of the country, and different parts of the world. Well...
.
TODAY - I WANNA HEAR FROM ALL OF YOU!
HIT THIS CONTACT BUTTON AND LET ME KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT TODAY'S UPDATE!!!!
(I'm back.)
.
Before we get to all that, let me do 2 things quickly. First... I'd like to make this song available to you as a FREE download today. But, I'll ask you to download the mp3 and then share it with at least one other person and explain why you're sending them this song. (Or just send them the link to this site and let them download it for themselves.) There's a reason for this.
I just wanna say thanks again for another typically amazing year in 2009. (But, THIS lap around the Sun is gonna be even more amazing... I can quietly feel it deep inside.)

Okay, now on to today's update.
Let's just start by defining a few terms that might be helpful in understanding my feelings this week.
proselytize intransitive verb
1: to induce someone to convert to one's faith
journalism noun
1: the collection and editing of news for presentation through the media
2: writing characterized by a direct presentation of facts or description of events without an attempt at interpretation
Fox News synonym
1: shallow-minded propaganda (see: bullshit)
This week, one of the symptoms of a a much greater disease in this country became apparent through the open proselytizing of a so-called "journalist" on the ridiculously named Fox "News".

Listen, I guess it would take something as outrageous as this to get me all full of piss and vinegar again. Let me just say this before we get into today's update. Beside the fact that they are utterly, factually and completely WRONG, right-wing, Christian, Conservative Americans who think this country was based somehow on the Christian religion are generally full of shit and hypocrisy. But that being said, if these people watch FOX News and consider pompous lightweights like Brit Hume to be legitimate journalists or even sane, sentient people of reason... they're just flaming idiots.
When a journalist on a "news" program chooses to urge the conversion of a professional athlete to Christianity for the sake of his soul, it's simply another admission of what reasonable people have known all along about that media outlet - especially when the preaching is coming from a twice-married-once-divorced, right-wing conservative, preemptive war supporting "Christian". Not only does he have the audacity to give spiritual advise to a man he doesn't know, not only is he denigrating another belief system of which he is obviously is ignorant... he's advising a man who, for better or worse, is actually still on his first marriage.
.
By the way, for the record... Buddhism doesn't subscribe to the same approach to the forgiveness of "sins" because Buddhists feel very differently about the concept of the very existence of "sin". In Buddhism, sin is largely understood to be ignorance. Karma is understood as nature's balance and is not personally enforced. Nature is not moral; therefore, karma is not a moral code, and sin is not ultimately immoral. For the Buddhist, sin is more akin to a misstep than a transgression against the nature of a god.
This understanding of sin does not accord with the innate moral consciousness that men stand condemned because of their sin before a god
Now listen... I wanna hear from you. (I'll post some of your thoughts and comments here on the site.)
"Nyah, nyah, nyah.... my religion is better than your religion!!!"
Because I hope you understand... the issue is not whether Mr. Hume chooses to believe in the Bible, Genesis, Creationism, Jesus walking on water, Mohammed moving mountains, Moses and his burning bush, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny or rationale for the war in Iraq. He has the right to believe in whatever religion or mythology he wants. He simply makes it a laughable state of affairs to call himself an objective "journalist" when he proselytizes like that on a network called Fox NEWS.
.
Um... oh hey, welcome to the website. If you're new around here, you might wanna take a little time to browse "The Archive". I realize a lot of you here in New York City, in different parts of the the country and in different parts of the world check in here almost every day and there's usually some kind of new content here.
I'll be back with more on this subject that is so very important to me.
And, ALL NEW stuff later this week.
Thanks for showing up.
I didn't forget what I said about letting you guys in on the plans for the next LIVE event here in New York City. That's coming soon, I hope. I think I have a GREAT idea!
See you tomorrow.
PEACE
Closed for 2009! See you in 2010!
David is available for private parties and events. Please call 646-224-8162 for fees and availability.
As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
