Welcome to the website... welcome to all of you in different parts of the country and different parts of the world.

Here's a FREE download to start off the update!

MARY LEARNS TO FLY

It's a new day. And the Sun came out here in New York City.

Me?

For me, yesterday was a good day for "inside" work. (Both kinds.) But, it feels like those sweet, warm summer days are far away right now, hah?

.

Got a couple of questions for you today? First...

Are you going through the winter blues?

GIMME A SHOUT IF YOU ARE

.

Y'know what?

Me too.

I spend part of what I do for a living in front of a LOT of people. (That's probably way all of you check in here at the website!) So, you would never get this by what I do for a living, but I spend an awful lot of my time in isolation. It's not really by choice a bunch of the time. I mean, yeah.... I'm a writer and writing is a solitary profession. And when I'm running new songs on the guitar, or writing new songs, it's not really cool to have another person around. So, a lot of my work is done alone.

Most of you know, I don't drink and bars bore me... so, I avoid them as much as I can.

All I'm saying is that... in the winter, it can get pretty lonely. This is one of those times. A lot of it has to do with the nature of my work so it's kind of deceiving. I mean, about 10% of my job puts me in a room filled with 500 smiling people or by a Lake in a park with 500 beautiful people siting in the sunshine singing. But, the rest of the time... writing the songs, doing these updates and Creating other things like the fun images I like to post here on the site... those are all very solitary endeavors.

I miss you guys.

I miss sharing music, and thoughts, and feelings, and stories with all of you. I'd like to find a way to get together with all of you on a weekly basis. But, not in a bar or a club!!!!

I'm actually thinking of a way that I might be able to do something LIVE every week, and do it so that ALL of you could hang with me. And, I mean ALL of you... all across the country and in different parts of the world!

What would you think about a radio/internet simulcast that was completely interactive!?

Y'know, wouldn't it be cool if we could get together for an hour or two every week in a studio here in New York City, and broadcast it live over the internet... and make it so that you could watch it in real time on your computer, and call the show on the phone, or email the studio, or even Twitter requests and comments to share with a studio audience!?

BUT!!!!

Can you imagine doing this kind of thing all year, even trough the summer months!?

Y'know how we get to hang with people from all across the country and all around the world every summer in Central Park!? (After we streamed the December concert at Merkin Concert Hall over the internet, I got email from places like Stockholm, Sweden and Berlin, Germany and all over the UK from people who said they stayed up watching it until the Sun came up, but it was worth it!)

Can you imagine if, every weekend, we could tell the people visiting that we would see them again during the week and that they could participate in the show right from their hometowns regardless if they lived on West 76th Street or Christopher Street or Main St. in Seattle, Washington.

BTW - I received so many wonderful emails in the past few weeks. I get buried in email sometimes and I can't answer them all. But I promise I read every one. I've gotten words of encouragement from a fellow-writer, a fellow-hippie, some wonderful friends, lots of beautiful people. Here's one that I wanted to share with all of you because, although I don't know this person personally, this message really helped.

David~

Every artistic soul has down time, so just let it happen! Screw the website for a while, or a few days a week. As a gift to yourself. So that it's not "work". Everybody needs a vacation, even from being creative.

And one day, for no reason whatsoever, you'll be walking by something or someone or overhear a conversation or see a special set of clouds or the color of the Hudson River or a stubborn blooming thing in the park, and you'll wake up again. Go to The Met museum and see what people 4000 years ago did. You can offer a quarter "donation" and see what all of our ancestors left for us, just as you are leaving your art for future generations to mine.

Enjoy the snooze! You deserve it, more than anyone else in this great city. Quit beating yourself up. It's the weather! It's the blues! So listen to some great blues! Take it easy, David. See ya at your next gig!"

.

I'm a lucky man.

Okay!

EVERYBODY... hit this link and send a comment about YOUR experience with the winter blues or how you feel about the idea of a once a week broadcast of some kind.

GIMME A SHOUT

Cool?

Here at thatguitarman, I picked Doctors Without Borders to send direct help to the people devastated by that earthquake. I think we'll start off today with a link so that you can see what's been going on with the dollars you sent through this website for our neighbors in Haiti.

When I'm paying attention, really paying attention, I'm in a state of almost constant gratitude and wonder.

I mean, seriously... Look at some of the artists I get to work with on a regular basis.

. . . .
Teresa Reynolds, George Wurzbach, Christine Lavin, Nelson Montana, David Marcus, Ryan Cavan, Chris Tedescon, Cenovia Cummins... amazing...

Damn!

I write songs and I sing them for people. Sometimes to make a point.

In my own faltering and completely imperfect way I get to write songs about whatever is on my mind and in my heart. I try to write songs to let the next guy know he's not alone, to touch someone's heart, to make somebody think or to help someone laugh...

We like to laugh around here... A LOT!!!

Thank you all for the phenomenal time we had at Merkin Concert Hall this past December. Here's a little tiny clip from the "This Year's Question" section:

There's a lot more of this video. What a great time we had at that gig! I'll post some more laughs and some songs soon.

But, yeah. Sometimes I play songs... to make a bunch of strangers... SKIP! (Okay, I didn't write this song. But what the hell!)

Have fun. I'll post the longer version and some LIVE songs very soon. And here's just another fun video from last summer... one of those ridiculously cool, spontaneous moments we've all gotten so used to out there in the park every week.

BUT!!!!

I've got a new idea that's kickin' around!!! Hopefully, I'll be able to tell you more about it next week! I'm gonna ask you all to write in and give me your thoughts about it.

If you're new around here are the links for the 2 brand new galleries.

.

Thanks for everything.

Be nice to each other today.

PEACE

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
- Dean
