Okay, this week I'm gonna try to give you some kind of idea about when we'll all be getting together in a venue here in New York for another indoor event like the "Year-End" concert we did in December at Merkin Concert Hall.
.
.
But, today.... I'm working on a new song. I think it's tentatively gonna be called - MY LAST PROTEST SONG
I think I'm gonna do what I used to do a few years back. As soon as I get a rough track laid down, I'll post it here to see how you guys feel about it. We used to to do that with other songs a while back and it was kinda cool to let you all in on the Creative process.
Here at thatguitarman, I picked Doctors Without Borders to send direct help to the people devastated by that earthquake. I think we'll start off today with a link so that you can see what's been going on with the dollars you sent through this website for our neighbors in Haiti.

Y'know?
About that new song.
I'm having a hard time jump-starting the enthusiasm for writing song to help make some kind of a difference in the world this year. Yeah, yeah I know.... we're only 20-something days into it. But, I've said this before.
Tiny, spiritually bankrupt people like the Glenn Becks and the Pat Robertsons and the Sean Hannitys and the Liz Cheneys and the Bill O'Reillys are certainly free to say whatever they want as they view the world through their tiny prisms of fear and ignorance.
But, I'm becoming so disheartened, disappointed and disillusioned with the people in whom I had placed a glimmer of hope.
AND I've begun wonder when and how the voices of Reason and Love are going to be able to very simply drown out those other voices.... or if that will ever happen.
So, I'm going to write this new song today to see if that jump-starts my heart again.
I'd like to hear from all of you of course, whether you're here in New York City, or somewhere else in the country or in a different parts of the world.. You feeling the same way these days, or am I just sliding down this slope alone.
Most of the time, I'm in a state of constant amazement, wonder and gratitude... just to be alive!
Damn! I'm a fan.
I mean, seriously... Look at some of the artists I get to work with on a regular basis.
. . . . Teresa Reynolds, George Wurzbach, Christine Lavin, Nelson Montana, David Marcus, Ryan Cavan, Chris Tedescon, Cenovia Cummins... amazing...
Damn!
I write songs and I sing them for people. Sometimes to make a point.
In my own faltering and completely imperfect way I get to write songs about whatever is on my mind and in my heart. I try to write songs to let the next guy know he's not alone, to touch someone's heart, to make somebody think or to help someone laugh...
We like to laugh around here... A LOT!!!
Thank you all for the phenomenal time we had at Merkin Concert Hall this past December. Here's a little tiny clip from the "This Year's Question" section:
There's a lot more of this video. Wat a great time we had at that gig! I'll post some more laughs and some songs soon.
But, yeah. Sometimes I play songs... to make a bunch of strangers... SKIP! (Okay, I didn't write this song. But what the hell!)
Have fun. I'll post the longer version and some LIVE songs very soon. And here's just another fun video from last summer... one of those ridiculously cool, spontaneous moments we've all gotten so used to out there in the park every week.
BUT!!!!
I've got a new idea that's kickin' around!!! Hopefully, I'll be able to tell you more about it next week! I'm gonna ask you all to write in and give me your thoughts about it.
Here... here's another for you to download for free.
As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
