Hey, welcome to the website.

And congratulations to all you NY JETS fans here in town. And good luck the rest of the way.

I'm tellin' you...

I love being "That Guitar Man from Central Park".

.

.

But, I wanna take a minute today to explain why the updates here on the site have been few and far between to kick off 2010.

There have been 2 things at play here... 2 very human feelings or conditions that I think every artist and every conscious person goes through now and then. I think, if you're regular around here, you know that I follow the "news" pretty closely. (The real news... not things like "balloon boy" or the sexual exploits of a golfer.) And at the same time, you all know that I'm the guy who wrote the song "CRAZY ON THE SAME DAY". So I hope you understand that what I'm about to say is just for today. I know everything passes.

2 things... first, I've been going through a little bit of a drought artistically. Just a little drought. Y'know, I LOVE thinking about the next thing, the next event, the next idea... the next possibility! But, I've been having a difficult time imagining the reality of it and finding the excitement in "the next thing". I'm having a tiny crisis of self-belief lately... when the big questions of self-delusion and grandiosity rear their ugly heads. (Very bad state of affairs for an artist who feels he has something to say and share with the world most of the time.)

And I guess like a lot of Good people I'm also feeling a certain, very real amount of disillusionment and discouragement after believing in and working so hard for something called "The Audacity of Hope". (I guess I was "hoping" for a little more "audacity".)

I'm tired of hearing the voices of the spiritually-vacant, shallow-minded, fear-based right-wing Conservatives in this country getting louder. I'm tired of hearing the Democrats in Congress and in The White House pander, compromise their values and sell-out the people with politics as usual. I'm tired of hearing from insects like Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and NY congressman, Peter King... and horrible, horrible people like the fucking Cheneys.

Okay, so... anyway... listen, I know it's going to pass. It always does. And I wasn't kidding. I really do have an amazing idea that's kind of percolating. And, I have already done some work that might need a little help and a kick in the ass out the door to find it's place in this world. The really good news is that I'm not afflicted by this kind of drought that often. I know other artists who deal with this kind of darkness on a regular basis. I found for myself that just by saying, "I know it will pass" and actually writing it down... (telling on it!) ...and saying it out loud helps.

I also should tell you that... as I'm writing this.... I just received a morning phone call from a dear, sweet friend and one of the greatest "possibility-junkies in modern history.... my friend Sid Bernstein.

He just chased the clouds away a little bit and reminded me that I wrote this song...

Almost every day.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
