Now, if I've said this once I have said it a thousand times... I am the least-religious man you will ever meet. (I actually feel that institutionalized religion is the single most divisive and harmful thing humankind has ever invented for itself.)
Bummer, right!? (Oh, relax.)
I for one actually love what Christmas has become through the centuries - - a time for giving, time for selflessness, a time for sharing and caring, and a time that has inspired the best in people from the birth of Santa Claus to the wonderful music and art that has been inspired by this season.
So... what I'm going to do in the next few days is share with you guys some of my favorite cinematic and musical works that have been part of the season for me.
NOW!
This first clip is just an example of what the Brits did soooooo well in movie-musicals for a while.... from Oliver to this wonderful film based on the Charles Dickens classic, "A Christmas Carol".
In this scene Ebenezer Scrooge, who is a spirit and invisible to the townspeople around him, is completely unaware that he is being shown the celebration surrounding his death!
Now - for me the marriage of music, lyric and dance is as close to perfect as any team of artists can get. The choreography is simple, yet thrilling. Everything from the casting of Tom Jenkins and the townspeople to the key modulation in the middle of the song... everything... everything works.
ENJOY!
From the 1970 "Scrooge"
p.s. I first saw this film as a boy when it was originally released in Radio City Music Hall. (Yes, they used to show a feature film as part of the Christmas show every year!)
Okay, I hafta get out into this town and do some last minute Christmas shopping today!!! If you see me around town, be sure to say "Hey!"
But, if you missed this very cool update you might wanna check it out. I took a little time out from the ordinary to tell you guys a little story. It's kind of a long story.... but it's a good story.

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
