Just a thought

This is something that's been on my mind.

Y'know... we live in a period of history that is currently being called the "Information Age". But there is a on old adage that says, "A little information can be a dangerous thing."

Like everyone else, I haven't been able to spare myself the incessant news reporting about a man named David Goldman who was trying to get custody of his biological son, removing the boy from his ex-wife's family in South America to bring him back to the U.S. (Years ago his wife took the boy to South America and didn't return. She later died in child birth, leaving the boy to live with her family in Brazil.)

I tried to ignore the story. I really did. For me, it was ostensibly another soft-news exploitation of a family's private concerns for the sake of ratings... another small story that could be dramatized and sensationalized.

Here's the thing.

I didn't realize what a one-sided story this has been. I was ignoring the story until I saw the first photos and "family" video tape of David Goldman the other day.

I hafta to tell you.... shivers went up and down my spine.

(It was brought on by a weird little coincidence... but I feel that "coincidence" is often just the Universe's way of remaining anonymous.)

So many Americans are so quick to think they know what's going on by superficial appearances and the little information they've been told if it fills in the romantic spaces in their imaginations.

But, I've had experience with men who are clinical narcissists... verbally abusive, controlling, subtly egotistical, shallow men who live to strip the self-esteem of others to feed their own delusional self-images. The damage they do to their wives and children is most often hidden from outside observers. I've had very, very personal, close-up experience with one such individual. It forced me to read text book after text book on subjects ranging from from borderline personality disorders (BSD) to the experiences of women who are survivors of domestic and verbal abuse.

Now, I'm not saying anything definitive one way or the other in the case of the Goldmans. All I'm expressing here is a feeling... and an opinion... and presenting a possibility that the news media has chosen to completely ignore. And I'm pointing out the fact that I can't really recall another recent example of a more one-sided story.

Let me ask you this?

What kind of occupation do you think a narcissistic personality would be drawn to? Perhaps... law enforcement? Maybe he would become a male model? Nah.... that seems to obvious.

Anybody ask these questions?

What does David Goldman do for a living? Is he working now?

Well, I've read that he "...works on a charter boat and has done some male modeling."

Just sayin'. Just asking.

Why did his wife basically flee the country? Why did his son's young mother, Bruna, feel she had to run a way to South America with her son? Seriously. Pretty daring thing to do. Y'think? Has ANYBODY heard the reason WHY she left Goldman and took her son to another country, knowing she might have to fight to remain there!?

That seems to me to be a pretty desperate thing to do... to leave the country with such a young child... to, what d'you think, escape a life with David Goldman?

Look, I don't mean to do exactly what I seem to be railing against. I want to make it clear that I claim to have NO idea what the relationship was like between Bruna and David Goldman. The reason I'm writing this at all is because I'm tired of sensationalized news and popular opinion in this country based on such superficial information - - because almost nobody is asking the question.

And because... when I shuddered at the first video and photos I saw of this "nice guy"... and when I heard him interviewed on TV.... he sounded so very familiar.

Very familiar.

Fuck! I probably wouldn't have even noticed except for the spookiest thing... he even looks like one of the most abusive, narcissistic, self-absorbed phonies I've ever met in my life.

Spooky hah? See what initially got my attention.

Then I heard the interview. Whoa! Really similar personality, too. I got a sick feeling deep down in my gut, and it inspired me to write this little piece.

So, America... we might wanna be a little more aware of "news" stories that egregiously only give one side.

'nough said for today.

(Yes. I know similarity in physical appearance means nothing. It's just the catalyst for this thought.)
