Welcome to the website.

Just hafta say right up front, never heard back from The Parks Department. So, I'm thinking no matter if the weather clears up for tomorrow or Sunday, we're not going to be able to sing in Central Park this weekend.

Sorry.

I'll be here at the website for the usual kind of update tomorrow.

And there's a lot of fun video in YESTERDAY'S UPDATE!

But for today...

Anniversaries are a strange phenomenon if you ask me.

I guess as human beings, both silly and magnificent creatures that we are, we tend to think that somehow we are back in the same place "time-wise" in some kind of circle or cycle. Or maybe we believe that the planet is somehow occupying the same space in the cosmos that it was a year ago... or 8 years ago... when both of those ideas are complete illusions.

Today is "now".

Sure it's a day we artificially call Friday, September 11th, 2009. But, even that's an arbitrary way of making sense of eternity... the perpetual and eternal single instant... THIS MOMENT.

Still, it's a time to remember.

And while we remember the tragedy and the darkness of that day in September 8 years ago, it's healing for me to recall how here in New York City where we felt the heartbreak more palpably than almost any other place on the planet, many of us found a way to come together.... where we needed to be.... on "The Hill" in Central Park.

These are photos that people sent in. This was our first time together that weekend, September 16th, 2001.

Hey listen...

I'm gonna be back a little later tonight with another update about tomorrow and other things.

I was hoping I would get to put a guitar on my shoulder this weekend and hang with all of you here in NYC. The weather might clear up, but The Parks Department is probably not going to allow me to anyway. So, I guess I'll hope to be seeing you guys next weekend, September 19th.

If you're new around here, or if you're checking in from a different part of the country or a different pat of the world, you might wanna check out YESTERDAY'S UPDATE!

You also might wanna take a few minutes (or hours) to browse through the ARCHIVE. Lotsa cool shit in there.

And by the way... the song THIS MOMENT is a free download for all of you today. It's a gift for everyone, so pass it on.

Keep showing up guys.

And, I hope you guys here in NYC are already thinking about the friends with which you're gonna share the "Year-End Concert". (Yeah, it's a long way off. But this is gonna be a special one this year!)

See you soon.

Thanks again.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
