Well, today is Day One for this very cool, very necessary, very new "Campaign of Reason" that started with a simple song and a subsequent music video.
Before I get to today's usual update, I gotta tell you that out on the West Coast of this country, 3 TV spots are hitting the air today. (I'm saying "usual" update, but there's really nothing "usual" about the last 2 weeks of my Life..... or the last 18 years of my Life for that matter! Damn! I'm a very lucky man!)
As always, I know a lot of you are checking in here from different parts of the country and different parts of the world. So to all of you and to everyone here in New York City, THANKS again for hanging with me in Central Park.
.
If you're here because you saw one of the new spots on TV, and you support the message in it, please do more than hitting the "Contact" button to say so. Please go back up to the top of this page, hit the "Donate" button and send a few dollars so that we can air this message in every home in America 25 times a day!
Ha! And if you have NO idea what I'm talking about.... there are a couple of ways for you to catch up and jump on board. There's an awful lotta fun stuff in The Archive, going back a whole bunch of years. Or, you can jump right in and check out the 3 commercials that began running today on the West Coast in the SF Bay Area.

I generally write and sing songs about Life, about commonality, songs to make people laugh, to touch their hearts, songs about Love, songs about.... us.
Y'see to me, most often, music is a mirror that attempts as best it can to reflect the world around us. But sometimes, it can also be a mallet or a hammer, to help shape the world around us. Sometimes the songwriter's job is to "Comfort the disturbed.... and disturb the comfortable." Hence, the new song and video - "RESOLUTION"
(wow! There it is again! I just used the word "hence" twice this week! Damn!)
So again today.... I'm just gonna show any newcomers the original video.

I mean....
I remember just last year when Vice President Joe Biden visited the outgoing Dick Cheney's residence in Washington for the very first time. Biden and his wife Jill arrived at their future home at Naval Observatory and were greeted by Cheney and his wife Lynne. After the visit, a spokeswoman for Cheney said a statement that the meeting lasted 50 minutes and that "it was a good visit." Of course there was friction. And at one point during that first visit, Biden even had to explain to Mr. Cheney why the torture chamber he had installed was a bad idea and that it had to go.
(Click on the image for a larger version.) "Yeah, yeah... y'see? This is a problem, Dick. Torture is illegal."
Okay, so....
What happened?
What's happened to us?
Listen... I'm just an ordinary American citizen. I work hard doing what I love to do with my Life, try to make the world a slightly better place each day, and hopefully strive to be a little bit less of an asshole than I was the day before. I went to college for about 10 minutes, majored in "incomplete", and eventually went on a roller-coaster of a journey that brought to a place where I now live an amazing life beyond my wildest dreams. I write songs and I sing them for people.
It's what I do.
Here are a few samples of some new tracks from the latest project.
Okay, that's all fun. It's all good. But in all seriousness...
.
I was born knowing that torture is inhuman, repugnant, barbaric, evil.... and illegal. (You were born knowing the same thing.)
So as we all go about seeking the Joy that runs underneath all our lives, why can't we actually take a step back to look at the bigger picture and acknowledge the Truth of what's happened in our name.... while many of us were watching "Dancing with the Stars" or cowering in the wake of 9-11.
We can be better than that!
Let's try.
Okay, I'm outta here for today got an awful lotta stuff to do. I'm actually gonna have lunch with my good friend and one of the finest guitar players I've ever met, "Dodger" Bartlett. (Havin' hung with him in a while.)
Then it's back to work trying to get the message of the song "Resolution" into every home in America.
If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them.
See you back here tomorrow with another update.
Thanks for everything

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
