Hey!

Just wanted you all to know exactly what is being said and why.

Look, if you've spent any time with me in Central Park, or at any of my concerts, or any time at all on my website over the years, you already know that I am a fiercely independent artist. I'm also a registered Independent, politically. (I actually loathe the "game" of politics in this country.) And as a songwriter who tries his best to write from a pure place, I most often don't get to write the next song I want to write, but rather the next song that wants to be written.

And so... I recently wrote a song called "Resolution".

The inspiration hit me one day when I looked around and realized that songs of social conscience were mostly being written by artists who had been around a while -
Neil Young, Bruce, CSN... (So glad for Green Day, the Dixie Chicks and John Legend) So, I wanted to compose a single piece that would span generation.... and genre, and race, and style, and gender.

I set about writing a song which would include a rock driven groove throughout, a soul section, a verse of rap, a folk/country section complete with banjo and fiddle. I was hoping the whole thing would come together and marry into one cohesive message. It seemed a little audacious at the time, but I was hoping to get lucky with this artistic guess. As I said to Brian Bauers the engineer about halfway through the project, "It's nice to be right."

The result is the song and now the video "Resolution".

The release of "Resolution" on YouTube inspired a lot of reaction from people all across the country and in different parts of the world. But a very good, very sincere, very committed woman named Cynthia Papermaster out in California contacted me to urge me, along with my friends & colleagues, to turn the message into several .30 and .60 TV message/action ads. She felt it was so important for this nation right now that she committed to financing the project on her own if that's what she had to do. On a total leap of Faith and commitment.... we all jumped in and got to work.

Here are the first 3 spots we put together. They are titled: CHENEY-30 / HOLDER-30 / OBAMA-30

Go ahead an click on each of the screens to preview the spots.

CHENEY - .30

HOLDER - .30

OBAMA - .30

.

NOW...

It's up to you.

We need 2 things from you, but one is of NO use without the other.

We need to hear your ideas about which TV programs would be best to air these spots on to get the message out. If you have a particular strategy in mind, we'd like to hear it. If you think we should be looking to buy airtime on FOX, suggest it. If you think we should air these spots in a particular part of the country, suggest it.

But, your suggestions will do us NO good if it's not accompanied by action, by showing up, by stepping up to the plate.... by coming up with some money to donate behind it.

Seriously.... be a part of this effort in two very real ways.

THINK of ways to get the message out to America, and then HELP us do it. (Don't just talk the talk.)

See you back at today's update the homepage of my website. When you get there, hit the donate button in the upper corner and urge your friends and family to do the same.

Thanks so much.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
