Hey, just because we hit a minor snag with the legal NBC Universal and a couple of cable carriers in the New York area market, that doesn't mean I want to slow down when it comes to putting pressure on Eric Holder to investigate Dick Cheney and others for waterboarding and other forms of torture in our name. We rrreeeeeeeaaallllllyyy could use your help.

.

This site is not all about torture or politics! (I actually loathe politics and I'm a registered Independent.) But, I love the ideals upon which this country was founded and it pisses me off that some people have broken the law and are getting away with it.

I mean, we've got lots of really fun stuff happening around here all the time.

Like - today is my good friend Sid's birthday. I'm gonna do a little writing about that today, because Sid is a very cool man.... done some really cool things to change this world.

.

But, as far as getting the message in the song "Resolution" in every home in America? No. I'm not slowing down. Slowing down, talking, talking, talking... when I've got it in my heart that something needs to be done doesn't sit well with me these days. Dick Cheney is just the tip of the iceberg. there are a lot of people we hafta go after. Laura Manske sent me this article from today's New York Times

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/12/us/12psychs.html?ref=todayspaper

I know. I know. Maybe you're asking, "David, you're a singer/songwriter! What the hell are you doin' getting all fired up about this stuff!? Why should we donate money to get this message on TV across the country!?"

Two answers:

1. As an American folk/rock singer, part of my job description is to "comfort the disturbed.... and disturb the comfortable

2. And as free American citizens and a decent human beings, part of all our job descriptions is to be vigilant, to pay attention... and to give a damn!

.

.

Good?

.

Okay, I promise I'm gonna get to Sid Bernstein in a minute. The new CD is almost here. And there's a very special song that I'm gonna make TODAY'S FREE DOWNLOAD. There are a lot of songs in the collection about Life, about Love, about Hope, about romance, about.... about us.

FIRST - - if you haven't done it yet, watch the video and really try to get your mind and heart around the message in this particular song.

Welcome to all of you who are reading this in a different part of the country and a different part of the world. And to anyone who's reading this and thinking about sending me some "hate-mail".... that's cool. I kinda get a kick out of it these days. (As long as you use spellcheck.)

Be sure you also write to Sean Hannity who said on the air that he was willing to be waterboarded to prove it wasn't torture. Ask him what the experience was like, and if it changed his mind about that evil method being considered the torture of another human being.

Um... okay.... busted.

Yes. That's just another Photoshop image. Yeah.... that's right. Like most people who believe it's acceptable to torture our enemies, Hannity is a hypocritical and cowardly disgrace, a real lightweight.

Moving on.

NOW!!! ABOUT SID BERNSTEIN!

I have a good friend. A "possibility-junkie", just like me.

His name is Sid.

He started out as being an anonymous fan on "The Hill", but now we're very close and he's beloved by so many people on "The Hill" in Central Park. He's there almost every week. Now, Sid doesn't ever check the internet. But, I will print out any birthday messages you guys send and deliver them to him personally.

Y'see, Sid is living an amazing life. Seriously. He's done so much to make this world a better place it's just amazing and he keeps dreaming new dreams. (That's one reason I put his name on so many things I do.)

But, for the few of you who don't know... Sid changed American music history forever when he introduced The Beatles to America.

. .

Besides that, he brought The Rolling Stones here... ABBA... countless others. He also played such a huge and underrated role in breaking the racial barriers down in this country by being the first promoter to book white and black acts on the same rock 'n roll bill. (He also made James Brown the very first rock n soul act in Madison Square Garden.) He discovered and managed The Rascals. He's also been humbly on the front lines of political activism from the rise of the Nazis, to the current corruption of the American government, from the civil rights movement to the recent assault on The Constitution... he speaks with presidential candidates and people who have no voice. And he has always spoken out where and when there's been a need. Over his lifetime, he's been some amazing places with some amazing people. (Anyway... you just hafta read his book.)

So, Sid has been a promoter, a producer, a manager, an activist for Truth and Reason... he's been immersed in the music business his whole, long life. But he's never played one note and... he's never written a song.

Until now.

One day Sid left a message on my voice mail that became the inspiration and hook-lyric for a brand new song. Instead of leaving one of his patented 5-minute messages, left this... just a few words... and all he said this day was,

"David - -
Keep hope alive. The best is yet to come. Keep... hope... alive.
It's Sid"

And then he hung up.

So, I wrote the song and it's on the new CD. It's the first song in this world on which the credits will read as follows.

Words and Music: Sid Bernstein and David Ippolito

It's today's FREE download. Next time he's in the park, we'll all sing it for him for his birthday!

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
