BUT! I got some really good news from the Parks Department. (Tell you about that in a minute.)
First, I'm really hoping to see all of you out in Central Park on Saturday. If you're staying in town for this early Memorial Day Weekend, plan on heading out and hanging for a while.
Okay, I've got a couple of things to get to today. And i'm gonna ask each of you to shoot off at least 3 emails today. Is that cool?
First the good news about Central Park. You know that there's an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker named Dean Love shooting a movie this year about the whole "Guitar Man from Central Park" thing, right?
Well this being Memorial Weekend, he would like to get some footage out there. There's also a guy over at Parks named Nelson Nicholas and he's kinda makin' sure Dean's project is going smoothly. Well, I was lookin' at the satellite imagery to get a gauge on the weather for this weekend, and it was lookin' like some rain might move through on Saturday. So, I contacted Nelson Nicholas and asked, "If we get rained out on Saturday, could we possibly show up for an afternoon of music and laughs on Sunday?"
He cleared it.
So, check this website to find out which day we're gonna be heading out there, okay? (I'm hoping for Saturday.)
If you think that Nelson did a good thing by giving us the option of either Saturday or Sunday (For the first time in 18 years!) please hit this CONTACT button, shoot Nelson a short email and I'll pass it onto him, okay?
Okay, next thing...
There's a guy who's been coming out to "The Hill" for years. You see him very often sitting over on the bench near the boat landing. His name is Bob Waldman. (He's the guy that I often joke.... knows every single person on the planet and they know him!)
"Baseline" Bob (right)
Anyway, Bob sometimes asks me to play music at events he sponsors for a very, very cool thing he started. Now they've got a new website and could use some support. (Not just clicking on the site.... but, also throwing a few bucks if you can or care to.)
In fact, the website opens up with a song from my most recent CD, called "Don't Let It Hold You Back". (And it's today's FREE download)
All you hafta do is meet some of these remarkable athletes and very cool people. The energy, the enthusiasm for the game, the passion for Life, the fact that everybody is always looking up... it's a beautiful thing. And after 5 minutes of watching a match, you simply cannot see the wheelchairs anymore. It's amazing.
Anyway... take a few minutes to check out their website and support them in any way you can, okay? (Even if you can't afford to donate any money, just shoot them an email and let them know you're out there and would wanna show up at an event sometime soon!)
As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
