Well... today is a very difficult, but a very special update for me.

Kinda okay for me that it's raining here in New York City today. I'm writing this with such a heavy heart... such an ache. But y'know? It's something we all know. It's something we all go through. It's Life. And, it's really okay. It's all Good.

If you've been visiting this website over the years, or if you've come to any of my concerts in any of the many venues I've played all around this wonderful city, or if you've been hanging out with me in Central Park for any significant amount of time...

.

...then you've probably heard me mention one of my best friends on this earth.

My pal.

His name is Thurman.

Now, Thurman and I met around 17 years ago. He was very young and living in a very hostile and cruel little world. At that time, I was just getting used to living in a very new and unfamiliar world myself... a world which grew more wonderful and friendly as the days went by. Thurman became a huge part of that world. But, we were both just lucky that our roads crossed at that particular time in our lives.

He and I have shared apartments in many neighborhoods in this city, a house halfway to Canada, and an apartment in Boston while I did a show in The Charles Playhouse years ago. He's been in the room when I've written nearly all of the songs that you all listen to now. He has heard me laugh more than I don't, and he's sat with me as I've wept openly at different times in my life.

I've given him a really, really fine little life and he's paid it back in full. He has shared the benefits of the fun, incredible road on which I've traveled... and he was with me the very first day I ever became "That Guitar Man from Central Park". Everyone who has ever grown close to me has grown to know and love Thurman. Many of my friends have cared for him at times as if he were their own family member. I've never met anyone who didn't almost immediately fall in love with him. He had a way of winning friends in an instant. I mean... literally, within a single moment of meeting.

And...

He has never seen me drunk.

Well, today... after 18 years, I had to say good bye to ol' Thurman.

Hey listen... I know a lot of you reading this have actually met Thurman. If you have, I'm sure he'd like to say good bye to you, too. You all KNOW how vocal he was. (Okay, he was a loudmouth who yelled at us all! But, we loved him!) So here, click on this link.

Thurman Says So Long

Oh man! I'm gonna miss that little guy.

My pal.

My buddy.

Thurman.

.

I'll be back tomorrow with a full update and some more news about the upcoming concert on Saturday, January 24th.

This week is gonna be filled with fun updates... I hope.

Hey! If you're new, keep stopping by, okay? We really do have a lot of fun around here. And, take a few minutes to it the ARCHIVE and browse through the site. There are lots of really fun Photoshop images, FREE songs to download, all kindsa stuff.

Thanks for everything.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
