Y'know, yesterday I said I'm flipping the sign to CLOSED for the rest of the year!
BUT... like I said in the concert on Saturday night, "Songwriting is my joy.... but it's also my job."
It's so weird. After an amazing, amazing, beautiful, fun night at the "Year-End Concert" with all of you in Merkin Concert Hall, I went to bed last night, suddenly overwhelmed with a feeling of loneliness and very mild despair.... about what? I don't know. But, I woke up this morning sooooooo fired up about Life, I can't even tell you.
And so!
Here we go! I woke up with 2 ideas for songs!!! I wanna have one of them ready for Christmas and I wanna have one of them ready for the next concert! (Which is on Saturday night January 24th, by the way!)
First up today, I can't let this go without an initial comment.

I can't understand something.
I mean, sure I understand that the bottom of one's how is a supreme insult in the Muslim world. But, why waste a perfectly good pair of shoes on a... man... like George W. Bush. (I guess some people get a little cranky over the deaths of hundreds and hundreds of thousands of civilians, and 4 million homeless and misplaced men women and children after an illegal and immoral invasion.)
But, your good shoes? Damn!
Man! Save 'em.
Ha!
Hey listen, I'm gonna be right back a little later today with a more complete update. But for right now, I just wanna leave you with some fun stuff to think about. And, a couple of photos from the gig this past weekend. (People from all over are sending them in to this website. Very cool.)
. . . .
Y'know, if you weren't there... we laughed just about as much as we sang. But, we sang NO POLITICAL SONGS on Saturday night and that felt really good. That hall was filled with so many wonderful people, the guys that shared the stage with me.... well, I hope you could feel it out in the audience. Between those artists with me there is such a respect and camaraderie in the music we made and the laughs we had. It's a great thing I get to do with my Life. It's a wonderful thing I get to share with all of you! It's gonna feel nice to hopefully write and sing songs of social commentary with a more positive Truth running through them.
Yeah, for me this was perfect way to wrap up a very strange year that ended on a significant note of genuine Hope, capping off a very difficult and bizarre 8 years to start off the 21st century.
So at the concert on January 24th, I'm going to RETIRE a whole bunch of songs I've written over the past 8 years!!!
Sing them, have fun with them, get them out into the Universe one last time and then hopefully.... never sing them again!
Of course, I'll keep writing songs that speak to what's going on in this country and on this world because it is part of my job description to "comfort the disturbed.... and disturb the comfortable."
I mean... people like this ass will still be around.

And, there will always be reason to sing this song in my lifetime!
But, it'll be nice to retire a while bunch of songs!
AND, my good friend and colleague, the amazing, prolific and ridiculously funny, CHRISTINE LAVIN has already told me that she's up for a gig like this as well. So, keep checking back and I'll let you guys know when the tickets go on sale.
Cool?
Okay I gotta get back to work.
If you were at the concert last Saturday night... THANKS AGAIN!
I you missed it...
Oh man! You missed a good one!
Thanks again!

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
