All I hafta do is start "paying attention" again, and the blues pass like bad weather. Sometimes, it takes a little time. It's just what I call "the ache of being human" or "the ache of being alive". It's all Good.
But, getting quiet with myself helps. Going "inside" and slowing down for a few moments helps. Reaching out to try to help another person, and getting out of my own way... helps.
So, maybe in a very real way... if I'm open about this and write about it today, it might help someone out there in New York City, or in a different part of the country, or a different part of the world with their own little funk.
Updating this site is one of the things that always helps. It helps me pay attention. You can find you own way of paying attention, too.
Remembering that there is a purpose and a reason to everything in every moment helps... even though I'm completely comfortable with the fact that I will never know in this Lifetime what all of those reasons are.
Paying attention to something like... like this past Saturday afternoon in Central Park with all of you.
It helps to remember that even when it feels like I'm spinning out here alone, that when... Ha! I feel like I'm gonna spend the rest of my days in relative obscurity and poverty... Ha! As long as can touch at least one person other with a song or a smile, then I have purpose, and I'm doing exactly what I'm meant to be doing for that day.
Sure, it's easy for me to get there when people send in photos from "the Hill" and tell me stories of the things that happen out there in the crowd while I'm up there playing and singing. It helps when I watch the news and remember that part of my job description is to "comfort the disturbed... and disturb the comfortable".
So... it helps when I can post a photo, reminding me that Joan from Wasilla, Alaska, joined me on the Sarah Palin song, "Don't Know Palin" - - and left with a smile, an Obama button, and a memory that will last her lifetime.
Joan... from Wasilla, Alaska, helps me out
with the Sarah Palin Song!
Or, photos of Ryan Cavan jumpin' in on songs like "Freedom" and "Sympathy for the Devil"
It helps when I turn on the television and hear the kind of crap pouring out of Sarah Palin's mouth, and feel the frear and anger rising from the unfortunate people who are attending John McCain rallies in some parts of the country, and I get to remember that I wrote the song and named my last CD "I Love the Company"... for a reason.
Ha!
Yeah, "You may say I'm a dreamer. But, I'm not the only one". Love you guys. I hope someday they will join us.
I really do love the company.
And maybe giving away a few free songs will help.
Here... download these for yourself and pass them around.
AND.... maybe sharing something with you that someone from "the Hill" sent into the website last night would be a cool thing to do.
These two are about the cutest two people on the planet! Watching this video.... just makes me smile. (Especially the way she smiles and looks at him while they're singing.)

Okay.
See?
Okay, let's see what the rest of today is about.
I truly am the luckiest man alive. Y'know?
.
.
If everybody at "The Hill" in Central Park threw their troubles up in the air...
...when they all came down, I hope I'd grab mine.
.
.
Thanks for everything.
Sincerely..
.
.
Thanks.
See you tomorrow.
All outdoor events are weather permitting! Stop by the website before you go if it is questionable.

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer. - Dean
