This is gonna be a very strange update today.

Strange, but really, really to the point.

(You can email me if you want and I'll post some of your responses here on the site soon.)

But, you DEMOCRATS... turn right around! This update is not for you today!

I'll get back to havin' fun here at the site tomorrow. We're also gonna have a great time and a lot of laughs out in Central Park this weekend if we get out there. And, I'll make a bunch of songs and some video available for FREE download waaaaaayyy at the bottom of this page!

But, I've really only got 2 things to say today.

First... you guys here in New York City, keep your fingers crossed for good weather this Saturday.

And...

.

.

I've just gotta say this...

....not only to Republicans or the politically independent - - but to every single, reasonable, sentient person in this country.

To anyone with a conscience.

(Please know that I'm writing this with a smile of my face and Love in my heart, okay?)

.

.

.

In light of 8 years of an administration responsible for more American deaths than Osama Bin Laden, more civilian death than at any time since Viet Nam, in light of their flouting of our Constitution, an administration that has flagrantly and admittedly broken both U.S. and international law, endorses, authorizes and performs torture, imprisons people without charge, and now finds itself on the brink of a cataclysmic financial crisis that has been wrought by the deregulation and enrichment of all their rich friends and supporters at your expense....

.

.

.

This is the first American presidential election in my lifetime that should be...

should be...

.

(um)

.

.

UNANIMOUS.

.

.

I don't care how you've voted your entire life! I don't care if you're more Republican than Pat Buchannan at a Heritage Foundation rally. I don't care if you've voted Republican in every election in your life, including dog catcher.

.

If you vote McCain/Palin, if you vote Republican after 8 years of this shit...

... you're simply out of your fuckin' mind.

.

Look... I'm not a Democrat. I'm not saying you should become a Democrat! No one could make me register with this Democratic Party.

Remain a Republican! Hang onto whatever beliefs and values you have that made you register as a Republican in the first place. Call yourself a "Republican" if that's the identity that makes you feel... I don't know... good.

But for the love of everything Good and Decent.... admit reality. Admit that it's YOU who have to change your party and take your party back.

Admit that it really needs fixin'!

Admit to yourselves and to the world that your party has been taken over by the likes of the machine behind George W. Bush. (I can't say it's been taken over by the likes of Bush, because you and I both know that he's a the idiot son who can't find a coherent sentence with two hands and a flashlight and couldn't hold down a job at WalMart if not for the circumstance of birth.)

Be a hero! Be an American first. Truly... put country first. It's up to you guys. Really, as they used to say... vote the bums out!

There are people on both sides of that aisle who would vote Democrat or Republican if they ran Barbra Streisand against Tom Delay. I just don't understand those people!
.

But... how in the name of anything you hold dear, how in the realm of Reason can anyone vote Republican this year....

John McCain!?

Sarah.... Sarah... oh man! Sarah Pailn!!!!!

C'mon.

SNAP OUT OF IT!!!!

Please.

As a possibility-junkie... I love the possibility that IS America. Don't let them fuck it up any more than they already have. Don't let them make it any more unrecognizable.

It's really up to you this November.
.

.

Okay... a little fun and some music.

First some free songs to listen to or download for yourselves:

COMMON GROUND

WHERE'S THE VOICE

Get Out Our House

(Okay you DEMOCRATS! If you snuck in here today... I want you to email the link for this update to EVERYONE you know... by the end of today!!!!)

I love hangin' out with all of you guys... everyone here at this website. I love getting email responses from you about the things that are posted here. And lately, I'm really having fun bringing you video.

Like, if you're reading this in a different part of the country or a different part of the world, some of the people who were hangin' out in Central Park this past Saturday wanted to say "Hey!"

Y'know what else I love?

I love the wonderful idea that was this marvelous experiment in self-governance called The United States of America. (Not that it's all that recognizable to me anymore... especially after the past 8 years.) But, I really dig getting in there and trying to make it cool to care, making it cool to "pay attention". It's part of my job description as an American singer/songwriter to "comfort the disturbed... and disturb the comfortable."

But... this video was sent in to the website by a beautiful friend from "The Hill" in Central Park... and it's just a KICK!

Okay... one mo' time!

HERE IT IS! The new Sarah Palin parody, "Don't Know Palin"

.

.

See you tomorrow.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
