Hey welcome to the website!

If you were here in New York City this past weekend and made it out to the park to hang out with me in Central Park... Thanks Again!

Yeah. It was hot and muggy. But the rain held off and we got another great day in. We had a blast. (Sometimes we laugh as much as we sing and that's a cool thing.)

Y'know, in yesterday's update (Besides finding a very early photo from Joe Biden's pageant days.) ...I promised I would ask a very simple yes or no question about John McCain's choice as candidate for Vice President of the United States today. I'll get to that in a minute. If you missed what I wrote about Barack Obama's acceptance speech, you can catch it in this update. Okay.. back to McCain's potential vice president.

His choice, of course, is right-wing Conservative, anti-choice, abstinence-only sex education, anti-birth control funding, gun-owning, hunter, moose-burger-eatin', pro-oil-drilling, ex-pageant contestant, 2-year governor of Alaska... Sarah Palin.

Here she is, just riding her dinner home.

Now, a whole lot is just beginning to surface about this woman who.... NOBODY knows.

A lot of Republican Conservatives are expressing some kind of bizarre, faux outrage that people like me are even highlighting issues like her stand on making abortion illegal in every case and her ideas about abstinence-only education in light of her own daughter's situation. (I'd like to start off by reminding people that Governor Palin knew that her unmarried 17 year-old daughter was pregnant when she accepted the job offer. So as her mother, she is ultimately responsible for any spotlights that are going to be pointed her way and she is responsible for putting her daughter in that position. She knew this was gonna be tougher on her teenage daughter... but accepted the offer anyway. Let's leave that alone, but it should be kept in mind.)

Now, I honestly couldn't care less about this kid's pregnancy. Teenagers have sex. Teenagers get pregnant. That kinda stuff shouldn't be anywhere near a radar screen politically... until it highlights once again how wrong these misguided hypocrites on the religious right can be.

It's also curious that hard-line "Conservatives" keep applauding her for "choosing" to keep the baby. Even Sarah Palin said, "No matter what she decides to do, she'll have our love and support."

Sounds like she's made... um.. a "choice".

A choice that this woman wants to take away from every other woman in America.

This poor kid's gonna be forced to get married... um... a whole lot sooner than later! Maybe to some young guy she doesn't completely love... and then possibly live a life in quiet desperation or spend years in therapy over all this. Maybe she'll be fine, but my heart goes out to her. She didn't pick her family's line of work. It isn't Bristol Palin's fault that her mother advocates abstinence-only education in school. As a teenager I could handle being blamed for flooding the bathroom. But imagine being blamed for losing a presidential election!? Poor kid.

.
We know nothing about her. Here she is posing with one of her daughters and
a caribou she shot. Maybe political opponents also cross her at their peril.

Y'know? Many of the right-wing religious hard-liners I've engaged in my life are sweetness on the outside, but hold deep resentment, fear, anger and intolerance on the inside. I mean, after all... they believe in an angry, resentful, punishing god. Not sayin' that's her.... but, who knows?

( Cue!!! The Religion Song!!! )

Maybe that's why I'm also concerned, and we should all be concerned, if Palin is the kind of politician who would use her elected position to have someone fired in an internal family matter. (Trooper-gate.)

BUT... alllllll that aside, here's my question for anyone who might be considering a vote for John McCain, who I believe to be as disingenuous a politician who has come along in a long time.

As a registered Independent and putting partisan politics and world view completely aside... out of all the people in the United States, out of all the people in the private sector, out of all the men and women in government on his side of the aisle like Olympia Snow or Kay Bailey Hutchinson or Colin Powell or Tim Pawlenty... is it in John McCain's very best judgment that he just picked the person most qualified to be the President of the United States in the event of his death?

Yes or no.

Is that it? Is his answer "Yes"? She is the very best, most qualified, best-equipped, best suited person to be President?

Do you suppose his answer is "Yes"?

Uh... um... whoa.

I hafta think this is a crass, audacious, transparent political calculation that is about to backfire instead of wooing the supposedly disenchanted supporters of Hillary Clinton. (I mean, these two women could not be more ideologically opposed even if they are gynecologically on the same page.)

What do you guys think? (Hit the "Contact" button up there and let me know.)

I have a parody I gotta get back to writing. I hope I can do it justice before Sarah Palin steps out of the race and I'm left with a song I can't use.

Starting tomorrow, here at the website we'll kick off a few days of covering the Republican National Convention.

Now, I know there are always people visiting here who have NO idea what I do! So, let me just start this update off again by making a few songs available as FREE downloads. Here are a few more...

Okay. I'm outta here.

See you back here tomorrow.

Thanks for everything.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
