Welcome to the website...

Welcome and... Good bye.

Yeah... I think it's time to call it a day. Y'know, I've been "That Guitar Man from Central Park" for 14 years. Well, maybe it's time to just be plain ol' David Ippolito. I have a feeling there are people behind the scenes who are woking to stop me from playing in the park this year. So, I have decided it's time to move on. I was really looking forward to playing this year. But, I guess it will all be a wonderful memory from now on.

Man! I remember that very first day at "The Hill", and all the kickin' and wonderful days since then... the music, the new songs, the Kudos Granola Bars, those days when every person was singing loud, the special "hot dog" days... the laughs.

Yeah, it was great.

I'll miss you all.

Oh, one more important thing...

Happy April Fool's Day!

Sorry.

Um... seriously though. I did run into a sticking point with the permit office of the Parks Department this week. I'm hoping it can be resolved easily and quietly so that we can just go out to "The Hill" and share music and laughs like we have for the past 14 years. I'm looking forward to seeing you all this summer.

Please keep checking back every day, though... okay? If there really is a problem, I'll let you all now about it and tell you what I'm gonna do with my music and my Life next.

Listen, I'm gonna make this short today. I know there are people reading this in different parts of the country and different parts of the world. But, it's a beautiful Spring day here in New York City. If you live in or around town... what are you doing in front of your computer!? GET OUTSIDE!!!

(Actually, Ha! I'm gonna be indoors a good part of the day, setting up the sound booth for the upcoming Podcasts I'm gonna be doing.)

About the Podcasts...

This website is about to become even more fun to visit every day. Free music to download, interviews, Video Podcasts, a radio show that you can download and take with you, original cartoons, Photoshop stuff, links to other cool websites, links to other cool Podcasts. There's actually a pretty important story in yesterday's update.

Um... okay, okay, okay. About the Podcasts.

If you're a little bit confused by the whole "Podcasting" thing, don't worry. You're really, really not alone.

Nobody really understands where it's all going. But, the potential is awesome and it is a big part of the future of entertainment on the internet. All you hafta know right now is that it's basically like a radio show on your computer that you can listen to or download and take with you in your mp3 player. That's all.

And, then once a week... we'll have a video camera out in Central Park, or down at Pier 45 in The Village, or over in Riverside Park, or at any of the venues I'm gonna be playing this year. If you're at the gig, chances are you will be part of the show. Y'see, we'll shoot video of you guys singing, maybe give some of you a chance to say "Hey" to friends and family in different parts of the country or different parts of the world, and then make the video available for the whole world to see here at thatguitarman.com the following Monday.

Very cool.

Things are changing sooooo fast.

Um, y'know... I have a lot of work to do today to begin getting ready for these big changes. So, here... here's a video I shared with you about a week ago... just to give you an idea of the awesome potential of your computer and what's possible on the internet.

Y'know, the very first song I ever played on "The Hill" in Central Park was James Taylor's "Sweet Baby James". To this day, If you come out there early, you will hear the first song I play every afternoon is "Sweet Baby James"...for a lot of reasons... kind of a "thing" with me. (I gotta write that book!)

Anyway... I found a video of Mr. Taylor doing beautiful rendition of his song with acclaimed cellist Yo Yo Ma. (You might hafta give the video a minute to load okay? Be patient. It's worth it.)

Here... click on the photo.

Okay... gotta get on this Podcast thing.

If you feel like emailing me about anything at all, just click on the "Contact" button. I can't answer all the email I get. But, I promise I eventually read every single one. And listen, if you're new here, go on and register in the message board ("Forum") and say "Hey". And, take a look through the "Archives" to see what we've been up to.

Thanks again.

A note from filmmaker Dean Love...

As you may know I am producing a documentary about "That Guitar Man from Central Park". I would like to ask all David's fans out there to write me and tell me any stories you may have about David and his playing in Central Park and how it has affected you or what it has meant to you. I've already heard some great stories, but I know there are more that I haven't heard. So if you got a story to tell about David and his music, please briefly write it out and send it to stories@thatguitarman.com . I will be contacting people from the stories submitted to interview them for possible inclusion in the film. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this summer.
